3M, czyli Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company, to światowy konglomerat znany z posiadania tysięcy patentów w takich branżach jak tworzywa sztuczne, chemia czy elektronika. Spółka wchodzi w skład indeksu Dow Jones Industrial Average więc nie ma problemów z płynnością handlu jej akcjami. Od dołków na poziomie 42 USD z marca 2009 r., kurs wzrósł do 210 USD co daje zwrot na poziomie 500 proc. Skąd taki systematyczny marsz na północ? 3M rok do roku prezentuje solidny wzrost przychodów oraz stabilne zyski. W pierwszym kwartale tego roku, spółka zarobiła ponad 1,3 mld dolarów na czysto, dzięki wyższej sprzedaży organicznej o 5 proc. Prognozy na 2017 r. wyglądają również optymistycznie - zysk na akcję ma wynieść 8,7 – 9,05 USD. Warto zauważyć, że firma zwróciła inwestorom 1,4 mld USD w postaci dywidend oraz wykupu akcji. Na dość trudnym rynku, 3M osiąga marżę netto 16,78 proc. oraz wskaźnik zwrotu na kapitale własnym 44,79 proc., czym zostawia konkurencję w tyle. Jej wskaźnik ceny do zysku (25,37) nie jest aż tak wysoki w porównaniu z branżą. Zagrożenie to coraz większy dług, który obniżył wskaźnik gotówki do długu do wartości 0,2. Mimo to, 3M może się pochwalić dość zdrowymi wolnymi przepływami pieniężnymi na poziomie ok. 5 mld USD.

Od strony technicznej, wszystko wygląda wzrostowo. Kurs znajduje się w mocnym trendzie wzrostowym, przeplatanym niewielkimi korektami. Z taką korektą mamy właśnie do czynienia. Nawet jeżeli rynek przebije lokalne wsparcie 207 USD, to na 204 USD korekta powinna się zatrzymać. Dopiero przebicie tego niższego wsparcia to spadek cen poniżej 200 USD. Wydaje się jednak bardziej prawdopodobne, że będziemy świadkami ataku na szczyty. Wybicie oporu na 214,5 USD może wywindować kurs 3M w okolice 220 USD za akcję z dalszą perspektywą wzrostów.

The Dow Industrial competent now sees full-year EPS of $9.00- $9.10, up from an earlier outlook of $8.80-$9.05. Analysts expect EPS of $8.95. 3M now sees full year sales growth of 4% to 5%, narrowing its early outlook of sales growth of 3% to 5%.

Why 3M Is Tuesday’s Biggest Dow Loser

3M Co. (NYSE: MMM) released its third-quarter earnings report before the markets opened on Tuesday. This company is the number one culprit for the Dow falling in Tuesday’s session. As of Monday’s close, the stock already was down about 25% from its highs.

The company posted $2.58 in earnings per share (EPS) and $8.15 billion in revenue. These compare to consensus estimates from Thomson Reuters of $2.70 in EPS and $8.39 billion in revenue. In the same period of last year, 3M said it had $2.33 in EPS and $8.17 billion in revenue.

3M Co. (NYSE: MMM) is joining the ranks of companies that are going green. The conglomerate has announced that it is committed to move to 100% renewable electricity. While this move will be an immediate one for its corporate headquarters, 3M also is pledging to ultimately move to renewable energy for all its facilities around the world.

3M has partnered with Xcel Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: XEL) to become the largest company within Xcel’s service area in its eight Western and Midwestern states to convert to 100% renewable electricity. As for the size of the facility, 3M’s St. Paul headquarters is listed as 409 acres in size, with roughly 12,000 employees in 30 different buildings and research labs.

By transitioning immediately to 100% renewable electricity at the headquarters, 3M said that it will increase its own total global renewable electricity sourcing by more than 5%, taking it up to about 30%. The move also is said to help the company reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. 3M claimed that its products helped customers avoid more than 13 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions last year alone.

3M’s press release indicated that the company has recorded a 68% absolute reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2002. The company also noted that it has nearly doubled its revenues during that same period.

Commitments of this magnitude cannot occur overnight. 3M has set an interim target for the company to source at least 50% of its electricity from renewables by 2025.

3M is converting its operations to solar and wind power, and the majority of its power for the headquarters will be supplied by Xcel wind farms located near Pipestone, Minnesota. The company identified additional electricity as coming from wind projects that are part of Xcel’s Windsource program and solar sources.

3M’s message is that it is aspiring through innovation to decarbonize its industrial position, as well as to accelerate global climate solutions and to improve its own environmental footprint. 3M is also joining a global initiative called the RE100, led by The Climate Group in partnership with Carbon Disclosure Project.

3M CEO Mike Roman said of the move: “3M is flipping the switch to becoming powered 100% by renewable energy. We are continuing to step up our leadership toward a more sustainable future – in our own operations, and in solutions for our customers.”

While this may not be a move that hits home or hits a news screen for many investors, 3M has had a rocky past year on its shares after a stellar outperformance 2017. 3M also was just featured in our own list of 10 companies that have raised their dividends for 50 or more consecutive years.

3M has a market cap of almost $120 billion, and its $207.65 recent share price is in a 52-week range of $176.87 to $243.10.

Dow Jones Giant Cuts Earnings Outlook 2 Times In 3 Months

Dow Jones Industrial Average component 3M (MMM) plunged after a poor start to 2019 prompted the company to cut its profit forecast for the second time in three months.

Operating income fell in all five business units during the first quarter, with particular weakness in automotive and electronics markets, 3M said in a statement Thursday as it reported earnings. The maker of Post-it notes and touchscreens also warned of headwinds in China and said it would cut 2,000 jobs worldwide as part of a restructuring to reduce costs.

"The first quarter was a disappointing start to the year for 3M," Chief Executive Officer Mike Roman said in the statement.

The poor results extend the pain for 3M, a diversified manufacturer that has recently struggled with high raw-materials prices, headwinds in the health-care business and unfavorable foreign exchange rates. Roman, who took the helm last year, is looking to return the company to the steady performance it was known for under his predecessor, Inge Thulin.
