BASF – w centrum uwagi

Obecnie akcje BASF tanieją obecnie o prawie 6 proc.

BASF, RWE plan €4B wind power project

May 21, 2021 9:29 AM

BASF (OTCQX:BASFY) and German utility RWE (OTCPK:RWEOY) unveil a potential €4B offshore wind power project as part of plans to cooperate on exploring the use of renewable energy for the carbon-free production of chemicals.
The companies say the project envisions construction of a 2 GW offshore wind park by RWE to help to supply BASF's Ludwigshafen chemicals complex, Germany's single biggest electricity consumer, with green electricity and enable carbon-free production of hydrogen.
While 80% of the wind farm's production would go to Ludwigshafen, the remaining 20% would be used to power a 300 MW electrolyser to produce green hydrogen.
But Reuters says the project's fate hinges on more favorable regulation, including faster tenders for potential sites in the North Sea as well as renewable energy being made exempt from hefty green power levies in Germany.
Earlier this week, BASF announced a joint venture with Chinese battery materials supplier Ningbo Shanshan to make cathode active materials used in lithium ion batteries.

BASF (DE:BAS) stock dropped 1.4% despite the world's largest chemical producer reporting better-than-expected second-quarter net profits. It had already raised its full-year forecast for the second time earlier this month.

BASF reports second-quarter beat, says no Delta impact so far

(Reuters) -The world's largest chemical producer BASF reported a better-than-expected second-quarter net profit on Wednesday, saying the spread of Delta coronavirus variant has not interrupted orders from industrial customers so far.

Low commodity prices during the coronavirus pandemic weighed on BASF's earnings last year, but the German group recorded a rapid recovery so far in 2021 as the global economy picked up faster than expected.

"We recorded strong demand growth across all regions, especially Asia - without China - and Europe," BASF's Chief Executive Martin Brudermueller told journalists in a conference call.

When asked about the sustainability of BASF's progress at a time when the more contagious Delta coronavirus variant could hamper the global economic recovery from the COVID-19 crisis, Brudermueller said he did not expect a second large-scale lockdown.

"People around the world have learnt to combine business activity with a difficult economic environment. Everyone has also learnt a thing or two about how to manage a pandemic outbreak," he said.

Brudermueller added it was difficult to plan for more than two to three months ahead, but BASF's recovery - as seen in its order intakes - has been continuous so far.

Asked about the exact timing of the sale of BASF's oil and gas subsidiary Wintershall Dea, finance chief Hans-Ulrich Engel confirmed it will happen "after 2021."

"We are determined to divest Wintershall, but don't want to commit to a particular date," he said.

The German group reported a second-quarter net income of 1.7 billion euros ($2.01 billion), above the 1.4 billion euros expected on average by analysts in a company-provided poll, as it confirmed the preliminary quarterly core earnings and sales and 2021 guidance it announced on July 9.

BASF Earnings Results – Why I added some shares

BASF is one of those great German industrial companies which many European investors own for its dividend. And I’m no exception to that, because I initiated a position at 45 Euro per share in May last year.

It was a perfect time to initiate a position in BASF SE, because it’s a company that operates in a very cyclical business. Hence, it should come as no surprise that it was heavily impacted by the pandemic and the economic slow down as a result.

In other words, you typically want to buy companies like BASF during a recession.

But this comes with a catch, because their numbers usually look horrible during market bottoms (very high P/E). On the other hand they look very undervalued at a market top (very low P/E).

That’s why it’s really important to nurture your contrarian mindset during market bottoms, because non of the numbers will make sense

BASF, China's CATL to team up for sustainable battery value chain
Sep. 16, 2021

China-based Contemporary Amperex Technology, one of the world's largest battery makers, is teaming up with BASF (OTCQX:BASFY), the largest chemical supplier to the auto industry, to develop a sustainable value chain for batteries; no financial details are provided.
CATL says the cooperation will focus on battery recycling and cathode active materials, which will help both companies to achieve their global carbon neutrality goals.
The companies say that combining CATL's battery tech with BASF's materials know-how could help clean up battery production.
BASF said in March that it would spend up to €4B toward a goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

BASF sees Zhanjiang chemical site generating up to €5B in annual sales

BASF says it expects the Zhanjiang chemical complex under construction in southern China will deliver €4B-€5B ($4.69B-$5.86B) in annual sales by 2030.
The company says the Zhanjiang project, which will cost €8B-€10B, likely will contribute €1B-€1.2B to EBITDA by 2030.
BASF expects two-thirds of the world's chemical production will take place in China by 2030, and that the Zhanjiang plant ultimately would become the company third-largest production site after its Ludwigshafen headquarters in Germany and a complex in Antwerp, Belgium.
BASF "remains a European cash flow powerhouse with a 5% dividend yield," The Investment Doctor writes in a bullish analysis posted on Seeking Alpha.
