Warsaw - A Syrian economic delegation, headed by assistant Minister of Industry Nidal Fallouh, discussed on Monday with Director General of Pol-Mot Holding S.A. Group, Andrzej Zarajczyk prospects of cooperation in the field of agrarian production, investment, alternative energy and construction equipment.

Pol-Mot Holding S.A. Group is a pioneering company in Poland which produces tractors and a lot of agrarian production tools.

During the meeting, the Syrian delegation briefed Pol-Mot Board of Directors on the economic situation in Syria and the grave damages which hit different economic sectors due to the attacks of terrorist originations.





Fallouh pointed out to the need for the Polish company to help rehabilitate the Tractors' factory in Aleppo which was destroyed by the terrorist originations and other factories in different Syrian regions.

He affirmed that the industrial cities in the safe areas are witnessing an excellent production movement in light of the current conditions, hoping the Polish side would be an important partner in the reconstruction process in Syria and an investor in the Syrian market.


Pol-Mot Board of Directors, for their part, welcomed the Syrian delegation visit to Poland; showing readiness to cooperate with the Syrian side in the said domains and meet the Syrian local market needs to enhance agriculture and industry in general.

Dar es Salaam: The government has signed a contract of USD 240 million from Polish government for tractors and construction of food storage facilities.

Speaking after signing the contract, Minister for Finance, Saada Mkuya said the fund has came in the right time as it will help the government to develop a project to manufacture tractors which will be provided to farmers to help promote and improve agricultural activities.
“Many Tanzanians are depending on agricultural activities so the project will directly affect those farmers by making sure they use modern ways to produce more products for food and business,” she said.

Mkuya said the fund will also be used to construct food storage facilities as the government is now facing challenge in number of food storages to preserve food products bought from farmers.
“Our farmers are now producing more than before so we are in a need of storage which will preserve large amount of food enough for domestic and foreign market,” she said.

On his part, Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives, Steven Wassira said the implementation of the project will help promoting agriculture and provide jobs for youths who have been avoiding agricultural activities due to poor facilities, especially shortage of tractors.

Under the contract, Polish Automotives company Ursus will bring in tractor parts into the company and assemble them in the country in partnership with army’s economic outfit SUMA-JKT.

It is expected that this arrangement will deliver the tractors at a lower cost than importing complete units. It also has a potential for much needed skills transfer and job creation. The polish government and Ursus are already running a similar project in Ethiopia.

Wassira disclosed that in order to ensure effective roll-out of the mechanization, the government would station Experts in all of the country’s regions.

On food storage, he observed that until now, the National Food Reserve Agency has a storage capacity for 240,000 tonnes of food and that the construction of new storage facilities will increase amount of food stored to 400,000
tonnes per year with the new facilities costing USD 110 million.

Various reports show that agriculture accounts for more than 25 percent of the country’s GDP, provides 85 percent of exports and employs 80 percent of the work force. But the sector is burdened by primitive technology with 63pc of the farm work currently done by hand hoes while 38pc comprises animal-driven ploughs and tractors.
