Why BP Stock Is Testing Yearly Highs Today
The stock is trying to get above the $29 level.

BP Stock Rallies As Oil Gets To New Highs
Shares of BP gained strong upside momentum and moved to yearly highs as Brent oil moved towards the $83 level while WTI oil managed to get above $79.

BP stock was under pressure in summer amid concerns about the negative impact of the Delta variant of coronavirus but started to move higher in the second half of September.

OPEC+ has recently decided to stick to the original plan and increase oil production by 400,000 barrels per day (bpd) in November, which was bullish for oil and pushed it to yearly highs.

Not surprisingly, traders rushed to buy oil-related stocks, so BP managed to get above June highs and continues its upside move.

What’s Next For BP Stock?
Energy giants like BP have been mostly unloved by analysts in recent months as the analyst community focused on energy transition away from fossil fuels.

However, recent events indicate that energy transition should be gradual as attempts to speed up the process have already led to high energy prices.

Analysts expect that BP will report earnings of $3.24 per share in the current year and $3.49 per share in the next year, so the stock is trading at just 8 forward P/E which is very cheap for the current market environment. It should be noted that analyst estimates have been moving higher in recent weeks, which is bullish for BP stock.

The company’s low valuation highlights market’s concerns about the future of fossil fuels, as well as the pressure from some funds who have decided to get out of such investments.

However, analyst estimates will likely continue to move higher as analysts will have to put higher oil prices into their models, so BP shares may gain more upside momentum. In addition, there is potential for multiple expansion as investors may decide to increase their exposure to energy due to the recent developments in oil, gas and coal markets.

(Reuters) – British energy giant BP said on Tuesday it was aiming to accelerate its goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 as part of efforts to shift away from fossil fuels and boost its renewable energy capacity.

(Reuters) -BP said on Tuesday it was aiming to accelerate its goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 as the British energy giant seeks to shift away from fossil fuels and boost its renewable energy capacity.

The company, which two years ago started on the biggest revamp in its history, now intends to halve its operational emissions by 2030, compared with a previous target of 30-35%.

BP is also aiming for net-zero lifecycle emissions from the energy products it sells by 2050 or sooner, against a previous forecast of a 50% cut in their emissions intensity.

“The need for, and role of, an integrated energy company (IEC) has – to our minds – never been clearer,” Chief Executive Bernard Looney said in a statement.

The oil major expects to increase the share of its capital spending in transition-growth businesses like electric vehicle charging, renewables and hydrogen to more than 40% by 2025 and around 50% by 2030 with an aim to earn $9 billion-10 billion from these fields by 2030.

BP, which sees renewables and hydrogen as transition growth engines, said it was on track to develop 20 gigawatts (GW) renewable power capacity by 2025 and 50 GW by 2030, and was confident of achieving 8-10% levered returns on the investments.

“The reputations of renewable companies have underperformed over the past year and it remains to be seen whether companies like BP can generate returns from these new business areas,” analysts at Third Bridge said.

The group said it planned to sustain core profit from resilient hydrocarbons at around $33 billion a year until 2025 and in the $30 billion-35 billion range to 2030.

U.K.-based energy giant BP’s exit from Russia cost it dearly in the first quarter, the writedown of its stake in oil giant Rosneft driving the oil and gas giant to a $20.38 billion loss.

However, its stock rose 2.2% after the company's underlying profit jumped more than 50% from the previous quarter, allowing it to raise its buyback program by $2.5 billion over the next quarter - the eighth quarter in a row it has managed that.

Investing.com - BP (NYSE:BP) reported on Tuesday first quarter earnings that beat analysts' forecasts and revenue that fell short of expectations.

BP announced earnings per share of $0.32 on revenue of $51.22B. Analysts polled by Investing.com anticipated EPS of $0.2331 on revenue of $55.47B.

BP shares are up 21.63% from the beginning of the year, still down 4.09% from its 52 week high of $419.15 set on February 11. They are outperforming the STOXX 600 which is down 8.37% from the start of the year.

BP shares gained 2.67% in intra-day trade following the report.

BP follows other major Energy sector earnings this month
BP's report follows an earnings beat by John Wood on April 20, who reported EPS of $0.1086 on revenue of $3.24B, compared to forecasts EPS of $0.0933 on revenue of $3.24B.

Oil and Gas Development DRC had missed expectations on Thursday with first quarter EPS of $0.54 on revenue of $479.7M, compared to forecast for EPS of $0.5421 on revenue of $492.27M.

BP buys into Australian wind, solar, hydrogen mega-project

MELBOURNE (Reuters) -BP plc has agreed to buy a 40.5% stake and become operator of an Australian renewable energy project that could become one of the world's biggest producers of green hydrogen, the global oil major said, without disclosing how much it paid.

The Asian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH) in outback Western Australia would develop up to 26 gigawatts (GW) of wind and solar power capacity which could be used to produce 1.6 million tonnes of green hydrogen - hydrogen produced from renewable energy - or 9 million tonnes a year of ammonia into which hydrogen is super chilled to allow its transport by ship.

The project's co-founders, privately owned InterContinental Energy and CWP Global, are counting on BP (NYSE:BP) to jump-start AREH, which has been set back by Australian government concerns about damage to wetlands.

The project fits with BP's push away from fossil fuels to clean energy and could advance its aim to grab a 10% share of the global hydrogen market, said Anja-Isabel Dotzenrath, BP's executive vice president of gas and low carbon energy.

BP expects hydrogen to account for 10% to 15% of global energy by 2050 and is looking into several other large-scale hydrogen and ammonia export hubs around the world, Dotzenrath told Reuters.

AREH "will not be the last one, but this is a very, very important project for us and I hope a clear signal that we want to establish ourselves in that market", she said.

BP said it was too early to talk about the overall cost of the project, but said capital investment to deliver the full scale of the project was likely to be in the tens of billions of dollars.

It aims to start producing power at AREH by 2029, when the first phase of 4 gigawatt of renewable power will get online, Dotzenrath said.

The two other phases of 6 GW of green hydrogen and 14 GW of ammonia for exports, would be developed over the next decade, she added.

The Australian government put AREH's plan to use 15 GW of clean power to split water to produce green hydrogen and ammonia for export on a fast track for approvals in 2020 but then left the project in limbo a year ago, when it raised environmental concerns about AREH's plan to expand to 26 GW.

The government said the expansion would have "unacceptable impacts" on internationally recognised wetlands and migratory bird species and the issue has yet to be resolved.

[L2N2O3070]

Dotzenrath said BP was working on a revised development proposal that would seek to address the environmental concerns.

InterContinental Energy and CWP Global have been working on the project since 2014. They and their other partners, units of Macquarie Group (OTC:MQBKY), remain stakeholders.

One of AREH's original partners, top global wind turbine maker Vestas, which had a 2% stake, has quit the project.

"By partnering with BP, we bring in a new level of engineering know-how and technical expertise, a track record of developing large and complex projects in remote locations, and deep experience in trading energy products globally," CWP Global co-founder Alex Hewitt said in emailed comments.

DENVER (Reuters) -Oil major BP (NYSE:BP) has begun drilling an appraisal well in Texas for its U.S. carbon capture and sequestration business, an executive said on Monday.

In May, BP said it and partner Linde (NYSE:LIN) planned to develop a site along the Texas coast to bury carbon dioxide produced from a Linde manufacturing site outside of Houston.

"We are currently using our subsurface and expertise to drill an appraisal well, for our U.S. carbon capture and storage business," Jack Collins, finance chief of BP's BPX Energy shale subsidiary, said at the EnerCom conference. He declined to provide details.

BPX in April received state approval for a permit to drill an exploratory well in Galveston County, according to a filing with Texas' energy regulator, the Texas Railroad Commission. Located on property belonging to Hall's Bayou Ranch, the well was not intended to target or produce hydrocarbons, the permit said.

A spokesperson for Hall's Bayou Ranch, a hunting and fishing club, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. BP did not immediately comment on details in the permit.
