Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) okazało wczoraj mieszane wyniki finansowe za pierwszy kwartał.

Warren Buffett's Latest Stock Buy Adds To Bet On Main Street Economic Recovery

Warren Buffett plowed roughly $800 million into an existing stake in Bank of America (BAC) this week, a signal that the legendary value investor is both prowling for bargains again and sticking to the script in the coronavirus stock market recovery.

Berkshire Hathaway (BRKB) bought roughly 34 million shares of Bank of America at an average price of 24 between Monday and Wednesday, SEC filings show.

The purchase comes a week after the top banks set aside billions more to cover Main Street lending exposure and warned of a prolonged economic slump. Still, Buffett has been consistently optimistic about the U.S. economy and its ability to enrich investors over the long term.

Bank of America was already the No. 1 stock in Berkshire's stock investment portfolio by number of shares at the end of March, and second largest by dollar value after Apple (AAPL). This week's purchases boosted Berkshire's stake in the banking titan to nearly 982 million shares, or about 11% of the company.

Bank of America is also among the worst-performing stocks in Berkshire's investment portfolio so far this year, along with bank and airline stocks at large. The Berkshire chief first invested $5 billion in the bank's preferred stock and warrants in August 2011, at a time when it was still reeling from the 2008-2009 financial crisis.

Berkshire's bank-heavy portfolio also includes retail lenders Wells Fargo (WFC), its second biggest bank holding with 323 million shares owned, JPMorgan Chase (JPM) and U.S. Bancorp (USB) as well as Wall Street giant Bank of New York Mellon (BK).

Warren Buffett's Latest Stock Buy Adds Even More To Bet On Main Street Economic Recovery

Warren Buffett plowed another $522 million into an existing stake in Bank of America (BAC), a signal that the legendary value investor is both prowling for bargains again and sticking to the script in the coronavirus stock market recovery.

Berkshire Hathaway (BRKB) bought 21.2 million more shares of Bank and America between Tuesday and Thursday, at an average price of 24.65, SEC filings show. That adds to roughly 16 million more shares of Bank of America purchased July 23-27, and 34 million shares picked up July 20-22. Berkshire has nibbled at Bank of America stock every day since July 20, spending $1.7 billion in total, including the latest purchases.

That takes Berkshire's total stake to 1.02 billion shares, or an 11.8% stake in the banking giant.

In October last year, Bloomberg reported that Berkshire sought permission from the Federal Reserve to boost its Bank of America stake past 10%, a level that often triggers a regulatory review. Berkshire hit that threshold earlier in July.

Berkshire assured the Fed that it wouldn't take active control of BofA, doesn't plan to merge with the bank, sell its assets, or make significant changes to its strategy or leadership. The informal 10% threshold triggers regulatory scrutiny in part to ensure no large shareholder unduly influences a bank's lending activities.

The latest purchases comes just weeks after the top banks set aside billions more to cover Main Street lending exposure and warned of a prolonged economic slump. Still, Buffett has been consistently optimistic about the U.S. economy and its ability to enrich investors over the long term.

Bank of America was already the No. 1 stock in Berkshire's stock investment portfolio by number of shares at the end of March. It also was second largest by dollar value after Apple (AAPL).

So far this year, Bank of America is also among the worst-performing stocks in Berkshire's investment portfolio, along with bank and airline stocks at large.

- To był błąd w wyświetlaniu i nic więcej - powiedział rzecznik Bank of America Bill Halldin.
