Z raportu wynika, że Delta faktycznie straciła mniej pieniędzy, niż przewidywali analitycy, jednak przewoźnik lotniczy zaznaczył, że ​​sytuacja pogorszyła się dopiero od zakończenia pierwszego kwartału. Delta Reports Massive Q2 Loss, Slashes Flight Plans As Demand Goes Flat

Delta Air Lines (DAL) reported a massive second-quarter loss and plunging revenue, after the coronavirus crisis and limited travel destinations led to a steep drop in demand. The carrier also scaled back its planned return in flights amid surging Covid-19 cases. Delta stock fell.

Estimates: Wall Street expected the Delta Air Lines earnings report to show a $4.06 per-share loss, swinging from a year-ago profit of $2.35 a share, with revenue down 89% to $1.4 billion.

Results: Delta Air lost $4.33 share with revenue down 88% to $1.47 billion. Delta said it had $15.7 billion worth of liquidity at the end of the quarter.

Average daily cash burn is down by more than 70% since late March to $27 million. enplaned passengers were down 93% from the prior year. Total unit revenue sank 21%.

Outlook: Delta cuts its planned August flight additions in half. The carrier now plans to add some 500 flights a day. Coronavirus cases have surged in the U.S., with restrictions returning and Americans becoming more wary of flights and other activities once again.

"Given the combined effects of the pandemic and associated financial impact on the global economy, we continue to believe that it will be more than two years before we see a sustainable recovery," said CEO Ed Bastian in a statement.

He later told CNBC: "Demand has stalled as the virus has grown, particularly down here in the South, across the Sun Belt, coupled with the quarantine measures that are going in place in many of the Northern states."

Delta stock fell 1.5% to 26.43 on the stock market today. Shares had settled around their 50-day line in recent days. Delta stock has a 26 Composite Rating and a 58 EPS Rating. The stock's relative strength line has moved lower since June.

Among other airline stocks, American Airlines (AAL) fell 0.8%. United Airlines (UAL) lost 0.5%. Southwest (LUV) did rose 0.2%.

Seating Limits, Travel Restrictions
Wall Street largely expected a rough Delta Air Lines earnings report, as the airline industry tries to weather the demand blackout caused by the coronavirus crisis. Cowen analysts said they were more interested in the current quarter, as states rethink their reopening plans due to a spike in cases.

Big tourism destinations, like Walt Disney (DIS) World, are reopening their doors again. But Nevada is restoring restrictions to bars and restaurants in Las Vegas and elsewhere. States like New York, New Jersey and Connecticut have quarantine rules in place, Cowen analysts note. The European Union has barred travelers from the U.S.

Meanwhile, Delta and Southwest, unlike American and United, are keeping their seating caps in place through September. Delta and Southwest are hoping more thinly-packed flights will make flying more attractive to wary consumers.

Analysts have said it could take at least three years for air travel demand to recover. United last week said "it's increasingly likely that travel demand will not return to normal until there is a widely available treatment or vaccine."

The current quarter is also the last quarter in which the government's rescue restrictions will remain in place.

The government began doling out grants and loans earlier this year in an effort to keep the air travel industry afloat. The airlines, in exchange, couldn't involuntarily furlough employees through Sept. 30. Airlines have tried to cut costs, raise money and shuffle employees into voluntary furloughs and "early out" programs to minimize whatever cuts come after.
