Ofiarą tego działania miały paść m.in. Apple, Amazon, jak i wiele amerykańskich instytucji. W piątek akcje Lenovo, największego na świecie producenta komputerów osobistych, taniały o ponad 15 proc. Producent smartfonów wraca do stolika, przy którym giganci walczą o najwyższe stawki. Pokazał dwa nowe smartfony i rzuca wyzwanie.

Motorola, która kiedyś dzielnie biła się z Nokią na rynku telefonów komórkowych, w erze smartfonów nie miała łatwo. Ostatnie lata to czas zmian właścicielskich, bo firma najpierw trafiła w ręce Google’a, żeby chwilę później wejść w skład zasobów chińskiego Lenovo.

Największy na świecie producent komputerów osobistych chce, aby akcjonariusze zgodzili się na sprzedaż chińskich kwitów depozytowych (CDR) spółki na giełdzie w Szanghaju, donosi South China Morning Post.

Lenovo, do którego należy marka laptopów IBM Thinkpad, chciałoby wyemitować i sprzedać 1,3 mld nowych akcji, stanowiących 10 proc. powiększonego kapitału. Bazując na kursie zamknięcia wtorkowej sesji na giełdzie w Hongkongu, oznacza to podwyższenie kapitału o 10,8 mld HKD (1,4 mld USD).

SHANGHAI, Oct 11 (Reuters) - Lenovo Group Ltd (0992.HK) saw its stock fall more than 17% on Monday, its biggest intraday decline in over a decade, after the Chinese technology giant withdrew its application for a 10 billion yuan ($1.55 billion) share listing in Shanghai.

The world's biggest personal computer maker on Friday said it would withdraw its application, days after it had been accepted by Shanghai's STAR Market. read more

On Sunday, Lenovo said it had done so because of the possibility of the validity of financial information in its prospectus lapsing during the application's vetting. It did not detail reasons why the information may no longer be valid.

It also cited "relevant capital market conditions such as the latest circumstances in connection with the listing."

"The group's business operations are in good condition as usual. The withdrawal of the application is not expected to give rise to any adverse impact on the financial positions of the group," Hong Kong-listed Lenovo said in the Sunday statement.

China's Lenovo posts worst revenue fall in 14 years as PC demand slumps

HONG KONG (Reuters) - China's Lenovo Group (OTC:LNVGY) Ltd reported a 24% revenue decline for the third quarter, its largest revenue fall in 14 years as global demand for electronics slumped, and said it would look to cut spending and make workforce adjustments.

The world's largest maker of personal computers (PCs) said on Friday that total revenue during the October-December quarter was $15.3 billion, down 24% from the same quarter a year earlier. The results trailed an average Refinitiv estimate of $16.39 billion drawn from seven analysts.

The outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020 provided a huge boost in electronic sales for Lenovo and its peers worldwide as many people opted to work remotely and replaced or upgraded their equipment.

However, demand has begun to fall and Lenovo's revenue started contracting in the July-September quarter last year.

Lenovo Chief Executive Officer Yang Yuanqing told an analyst call after its earnings that the entire PC and mobile market experienced a "severe downturn" in the last quarter, and the company was looking to reduce expenses and improve efficiency.

Lenovo is aiming to reduce its run rate operational expenses by approximately $150 million to achieve a medium-term goal of doubling net margin, its chief financial officer, Wong Wai Ming, added.

"This includes overall reduction in operational spending as well as workforce adjustments where necessary and appropriate." he said.

Wong did not elaborate on whether this would involve layoffs.

Rivals Dell Technologies (NYSE:DELL) Inc and HP Inc (NYSE:HPQ) have announced they will cut staff. Dell said it will cut about 6,650 jobs, or 5% of its global workforce, while HP expects to cut up to 6,000 jobs by the end of fiscal 2025, or about 12% of its global workforce.

Lenovo's net income attributable to shareholders for the October-December quarter plunged 32% to $437 million. Lenovo shares in Hong Kong slid 3.14% on Friday.

IT research firm Gartner (NYSE:IT) said last month that shipments of PCs and mobile phones were likely to fall for the second consecutive year in 2023. PC shipments are likely to slide 6.8% this year after falling 16% in 2022, Gartner said.

Lenovo said that market was in the process of digesting excessive inventory, which may need one or two more quarters. But Yuan said device activation data showed that real demand was not as bad as it may appear.

"From the second half of the year, you will see the PC market resume growth," he said.

HONG KONG (Reuters) -China's Lenovo Group (OTC:LNVGY) on Thursday posted a worse-than-expected 24% fall in revenue for the April-June quarter, hit by a prolonged slump in global demand for personal computers.

The world's largest PC maker has now suffered four consecutive quarters of sales declines. The result comes after it reported a 14% drop in annual profit for the year that ended in March, its first annual decline since 2019.

Revenue in the April-June quarter fell to $12.9 billion, below a $13.84 billion average of seven analyst estimates compiled by Refinitiv.

Lenovo shares in Hong Kong fell as much as 6% after the result but recouped some losses to trade down 2.9%, while the benchmark index gained 0.9%.

The COVID-19 pandemic gave a huge boost to electronics sales as consumers and companies alike stocked up or upgraded to accommodate a shift to remote work. However, revenue started contracting last year as demand began to fall, weighed down by rising interest rates and soaring inflation.

The pace of the recovery remains weak and many retailers still have unsold inventory, forcing PC makers and their suppliers including chipmakers to adjust production volume and prices.

"The group’s PC business is stabilizing and well-positioned for a year-on-year recovery in the later part of 2023," Lenovo said in a statement.

Global PC shipments fell by 12% in the second quarter of 2023, according to market research firm Canalys, a big improvement from a more than 30% drop in the preceding two quarters.

Lenovo's sales in China declined more sharply than in other markets, with quarterly revenue down 29% from the same period last year. China's economy has failed to surge after it lifted COVID-19 restrictions late last year.

But Yang Yuanqing, Lenovo's CEO, said he's confident in China's fundamentals in the long term and encouraged by the government's current measures to stabilize the market and spur consumption.

Net income attributable to shareholders tumbled 66% to $177 million, versus analysts' $212.49 million estimate.

To improve profit margins, Lenovo has been expanding non-PC businesses such as servers and information technology (IT) services, but its device business that includes PCs, smartphones and tablets still accounted for nearly four-fifths of group revenue.

Lenovo's infrastructure solutions business, which sells servers and other equipment, posted a surprising 8% revenue decline, its first quarterly decline in many quarters, which Yang said was partly due to an ongoing shortage of AI chips.

"(Cloud service providers) are shifting their demand from the traditional computers to the AI servers. But unfortunately the AI server supply is constrained by the GPU supply," he said, referring to graphics processing units.
