Investing.com – IBM stock (NYSE:IBM) fell more than 4% amid top leadership changes that include President Jim Whitehurst’s decision to leave.

Whitehurst had played a pivotal role in the integration of Red Hat with the more than 90-year-old company.

He will now work as senior advisor to IBM CEO Arvind Krishna and the rest of the executive leadership team.

Bridget van Kralingen will step down as senior vice president, global markets, a role she decided to stay in to help in transition when Krishna took over as CEO in April 2020.

She will retire from the company after a year but will remain senior vice president, special projects until then.

Kralingen had agreed to stay on when Arvind Krishna took over as CEO but has now decided to move on.

Rob Thomas will take Kralingen’s place as senior vice president, global markets. Thomas has led various parts of IBM’s business such as data and AI, hardware, services, and software. According to an IBM note, he will play a key role as the company’s “new go-to-market strategy kicks into high gear."

Roger Premo will lead a newly constituted business development team, which integrates corporate strategy and will report to CFO Jim Kavanaugh, according to the note.

There were other senior level changes too.

International Business Machines vs. Alteryx: Which Big Data Stock is a Better Buy?

International Business Machines Corporation [IBM], in Armonk, New York, provides integrated solutions and services worldwide. The company operates through five segments: Cloud & Cognitive Software; Global Business Services; Global Technology Services; Systems; and Global Financing. By way of comparison, Alteryx, Inc. (AYX - Get Rating) in Irvine, Calif., provides an end-to-end analytics platform for data analysts and scientists worldwide. The company also offers a cloud-based collaboration offering that allows users to share workflows in a centralized repository.

The large-scale analytics and intelligent automation services market has been generating robust growth over the past few years. The global big data market is projected to reach $234.6 billion by 2026, growing at a 10.2% CAGR. Furthermore, the big data market in the United States is expected to hit an estimated $50.1 billion this year. The industry’s robust growth prospects should drive IBM and AYX’s performance in the coming months.

IBM stock has gained 3.1% in price over the past six months, while AYX has shed 17.7% over this period. Also, IBM’s 7% gains year-to-date compare with AYX’s 42.6% slump. And in terms of their past year’s performance, IBM is the clear winner with 11.7% gains versus AYX’s 36.8% slump.

But which stock is a better buy now? Let’s find out.

Latest Development

On September 8, IBM unveiled its new IBM Power E1080 server, the first in a new family of servers explicitly designed for hybrid cloud environments. Given the accelerated adoption of hybrid cloud infrastructure across the IT space, this launch should be a hit in the market.

On July 30, AYX announced that the company became an Elite Technology Partner in Snowflake Inc. (SNOW) Partner Network to accelerate analytics and data science automation for global organizations. “Our expanded partnership that includes Snowflake Partner Connect and Snowpark delivers exceptional ease-of-use for business users and citizen data scientists with a single integrated solution for high-performance analytics and machine learning,” said Nitin Brahmankar, vice president, ISV & global partner ecosystem, Alteryx.

7 SEVERELY UNDERVALUED STOCKS
Recent Financial Results

IBM’s total revenues increased 3.4% year-over-year to $18.75 billion in its fiscal second quarter, ended June 30. Its gross profit grew 3.5% from its year-ago value to $9.00 billion. Its non-GAAP income from continuing operations came in at $2.10 billion, reflecting a 7.9% increase year-over-year. The company’s non-GAAP EPS increased 6.9% year-over-year to $2.33.

AYX’s revenues increased 25% year-over-year to $120.07 million in its fiscal second quarter, ended June 30. Its gross profit grew 23.7% from its year-ago value to $107.14 million. AYX’s net loss increased 23.1% year-over-year to $43.44 million, while the company’s net loss per share rose 22.6% year-over-year to $0.65.

Past and Expected Financial Performance

IBM’s levered FCF has grown at a 36.9% CAGR over the past three years. Analysts expect IBM’s revenue to increase 1.7% in the next quarter, 2% in the current year, and 1.6% in the next year. The company’s EPS is expected to grow 102.4% in the next quarter, 23.8% in the current year, and 9.9% in the next year. Furthermore, its EPS is expected to grow at a 16.4% rate per annum over the next five years.

In comparison, AYX’s levered FCF has grown at a 28.1% CAGR over the past three years. Analysts expect the company’s revenue to increase 2.6% in the next quarter, 6.4% in the current year, and 18.2% in the next year. The company’s EPS is expected to decline 72.6% in the next quarter and 118.1% in the current year. However, its EPS is expected to grow 147.1% in the next year. Also, AYX’s EPS is expected to decline at a 23.3% rate per annum over the next five years.

Profitability

IBM is more profitable, with EBITDA and net income margins of 21.49% and 7.17%, respectively, versus AYX’s negative 3.01% and 10.91%.

Furthermore, IBM’s ROE, ROA, and ROTC of 24.53%, 3.84%, and 6.72%, respectively, compare with AYX’s negative 13.72%, 1.34%, and 1.53%.

Thus, IBM is more profitable.

Valuation

In terms of forward EV/Sales, AYX is currently trading at 9.27x, which is 75.4% higher than IBM, which is currently trading at 2.28x. Also, AYX’s 839.29 forward EV/EBITDA ratio is substantially higher than IBM’s 9.03.

Thus, IBM is relatively affordable here.

POWR Ratings

IBM has an overall B rating, which equates to Buy in our proprietary POWR Ratings system. In contrast, AYX has an overall rating of C, which translates to Neutral. The POWR Ratings are calculated considering 118 distinct factors, with each factor weighted to an optimal degree.

IBM has a B grade for Quality, owing to its higher-than-industry profit margins. IBM’s 18.33% levered FCF margin is 47.6% higher than the 12.41% industry average. In comparison, AYX has a grade of C for Quality. This is justified because AYX’s 13.17% levered FCF margin is 6.1% higher than the 12.41% industry average. IBM has a C Stability grade, which is consistent with its 0.97 beta. In contrast, AYX has a D Stability grade, which is in sync with its relatively high 1.35 beta.

Of the 46 stocks in the B-rated Technology – Hardware industry, IBM is ranked #7. Alternatively, among the 149 stocks in the D-rated Software – Application industry, AYX is ranked #88.

Beyond what we’ve stated above, we have also rated the stocks for Sentiment, Momentum, Value, and Growth. Click here to view IBM Ratings. Also, get all AYX ratings here.

Click here to check out our Software Industry Report for 2021

The Winner

Both IBM and AYX are well-positioned to benefit from the growing big data and analytics market. However, we think its higher profitability and lower valuation make IBM the better buy here.

IBM Rated Buy at Jefferies on Potential for Revenue Rebound

International Business Machines (IBM) - Get International Business Machines (IBM) Report shares rose Friday, after shares Jefferies analyst Kyle McNealy started his coverage of the struggling technology giant with a buy rating and $170 target price.

That’s based on fundamentals: He says revenue can rebound. “We see a strong demand environment driven by pandemic recovery and enterprise focus on digitization and digital resiliency,” McNealy wrote in a commentary cited by Barron’s.

“After years of transition, we see a solid path for IBM to outperform growth expectations, driven by increasing cloud mix in the business, recent strategic actions catalyzing revenue growth, and a leading portfolio to deliver multi-cloud solutions.”

Shares of the Armonk, N.Y., company recently traded at $143.78, up 3.5%. It has climbed 14% year to date but has slid 10% over the past five years.

IBM sits “at the convergence” of many major technology trends for big companies, such as cloud services, security, data analytics and artificial intelligence, McNealy said.

A proprietary survey of IT resellers showed IBM is “the third most considered public-cloud vendor,” trailing only Microsoft (MSFT) - Get Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Report and Amazon (AMZN) - Get Amazon.com, Inc. Report, he said.

Morningstar analyst Julie Bhusal Sharma puts fair value at $125 for IBM.

“We think clients will gradually reduce their IBM offerings, from infrastructure as a service to software to outsourcing functions (like payroll processing and talent management), as competitors’ value add lowers the cost of switching from IBM products,” she wrote in a June commentary.

“Fortunately for IBM, we think its enterprise customers are particularly sticky, especially as IBM tends to serve very large customers within regulated industries. Therefore, any change with IBM will be a slow one.”

14.10.2020

IBM Services Business Unveils New Post-Split Name: Kyndryl [NYSE: KD]
The $19 billion managed infrastructure services business will be based in New York City and operate under the name Kyndryl once it separates from IBM later this year.

By Michael Novinson

IBM has settled on a new name for its $19 billion managed infrastructure services business once it’s spun out from Big Blue later this year: Kyndryl.

The Armonk, N.Y.-based technology giant revealed Monday that Kyndryl will be based in New York City and adopt a logo with the company’s name written in red and entirely in lowercase. The spinout of the 4,600-client Kyndryl business is expected to occur by the end of 2021, more than a year after the separation plan was first unveiled.

“Kyndryl evokes the spirit of true partnership and growth,” CEO Martin Schroeter said in a statement. “Customers around the world will come to know Kyndryl as a brand that runs the vital systems at the heart of progress, and an independent company with the best global talent in the industry.”

[Related: IBM Picks Two Tech Vets To Lead New, Yet-To-Be Named Services Business]

The company’s name came about from combining the first portion of the word “kinship” with the second portion of the word “tendril.” Kinship was chosen to reflect that relationships with employees, customers and partners are at the center of the new company’s strategy, while tendril was selected to indicate that the new business is always working toward advancing human progress.

“Creating a name is just the start of our journey as a brand,” Chief Marketing Officer Maria Bartolome Winans said in a statement. “It will help identify us and support recognition, but the meaning of the name will be built and enhanced over time from our behaviors, aspirations and actions, and what we enable our customers to do.”

Kyndryl will be going after a $500 billion market opportunity focused on managing client-owned IT infrastructure and has a $60 billion services backlog from customers across 115 countries. Longtime IBM veteran Schroeter was announced in January as the company’s CEO following a two-and-a-half-year stint overseeing Big Blue’s global sales, worldwide geographic operations and client relationships.

“At Kyndryl, we design, run and manage the most modern and reliable technology infrastructure that the world depends on every day,” Schroeter wrote in a LinkedIn post Monday. “Kyndryl evokes this spirit of partnership and growth, so we can continue to create a healthy digital ecosystem for our employees, customers and communities we serve.”

The company said last month that Elly Keinan would serve as Kyndryl’s group president, while Winans would take the CMO position. Keinan previously worked as general manager of IBM North America, general manager of IBM Latin America and chairman of IBM Japan. Winans, meanwhile, has been responsible for demand generation across the U.S., Canada and Latin America as IBM Americas CMO.

Following the spinoff of Kyndryl, IBM will be focused on developing cutting-edge technology for hybrid cloud computing and digital transformation. The 110-year-old company will retain the $8 billion Global Technology Services cloud services consulting business; the $17 billion Global Business Services unit; the IBM systems business; and software products around big data, artificial intelligence and security.

IBM Global Services has for many years been ranked on the CRN Solution Provider 500 as the largest solution provider in the world, offering global business services, cloud services consulting, and managed infrastructure services (what will become Kyndryl). Once the managed infrastructure piece is split off from IBM’s other solution provider offerings, Accenture will likely catapult into the No. 1 slot on the CRN Solution Provider 500.

Wcześniej pełnił rolę dyrektora finansowego i dyrektora generalnego IBM Global Financing. Pracował w strukturach korporacji w USA, Japonii, Australii.

Latest Release
Jan 24, 2022

EPS / Forecast

Revenue / Forecast

(Reuters) -IBM on Monday beat Wall Street estimates for revenue in the fourth quarter, as its focus on the cloud paid off in Big Blue's first earnings after exiting the slow-growing managed infrastructure business.

Shares of the IT giant jumped as much as 7% aftermarket before easing to trade flat, with the company reiterating its forecast for mid-single-digit revenue growth in 2022, compared with 3.9% last year.

"This will be the first quarter where you'll see what today's IBM (NYSE:IBM) looks like, and that is a higher revenue growth company," Chief Financial Officer James Kavanaugh told Reuters in an interview.

The 110-year-old company has doubled down on the software and consulting businesses after shedding its former managed infrastructure unit in November following years of growth and margin pressures.

Revenue at IBM's consulting business rose 13.1%, while cloud revenue jumped 16% to $6.2 billion in the quarter.

With cloud adoption surging worldwide, the company has shifted its focus to the so-called "hybrid-cloud", where enterprises use a combination of their own data centers and leased computing resources to store and process data.

U.S. revenue rose in the mid-single digits during the quarter even as the Omicron variant raged across the country, Kavanaugh said, adding that industries hit hard early by the pandemic were bouncing back.

IBM's revenue rose 6.5% to $16.7 billion, adjusted for the separation of the managed infrastructure services business, now Kyndryl. Analysts on average had expected $15.96 billion, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.

"IBM hasn't had this kind of result and with the spin-off, a lot of this sentiment was that it was going to take a few quarters for this to flush out," Futurum Research analyst Daniel Newman said.

Excluding items, IBM earned $3.35 per share, beating estimates of $3.30.

Technology major International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM), popularly known as IBM, has reported strong results for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2021. The upbeat results can be attributed mainly to the robust growth witnessed in total revenues.

Following the results, shares of the company rose roughly 2.5% on Monday.

Revenue & Earnings
Quarterly revenues of $16.7 billion were up 6.5% from the same period last year. Moreover, the figure surpassed the consensus estimate of $15.98 billion. A rise of 8.2% and 13.1% in software revenues and consulting revenues, respectively, were the primarily drivers of the overall revenue growth for the company.

The company’s earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter stood at $3.35, up 78% from the prior year. The figure also surpassed the consensus estimate of $3.14 per share.

Further, the company reported a gross profit margin of 56.9% for the quarter, a decline of of 58.9% from the previous year.

CEO’s Comments
The CEO of IBM, Arvind Krishna, said, “We increased revenue in the fourth quarter with hybrid cloud adoption driving growth in software and consulting. Our fourth-quarter results give us confidence in our ability to deliver our objectives of sustained mid-single digit revenue growth and strong free cash flow in 2022.”

Stock Rating
The Wall Street community is cautiously optimistic about the stock with a Moderate Buy consensus rating based on 4 Buys, 3 Holds and 1 Sell. The average IBM stock price target of $150.88 implies that the stock has upside potential of 17.1% from current levels. Shares have gained about 13.7% over the past year.
