Gaming stocks Las Vegas Sands (LVS), Wynn Resorts (WYNN), MGM Resorts (MGM) and Melco Resorts & Entertainment (MLCO) rallied in Monday's stock market on better-than-expected Macau gaming revenue and stronger China economic data. Melco stock cleared a buy point.

Revenue in the Chinese gambling hub slipped 0.4% to 25.8 billion patacas ($3.2 billion), but analysts expected a 3% decline. Union Gaming analyst Grant Govertsen said this was despite visible foot traffic being noticeably lower than normal. He said that indicates premium mass and high roller customers were making a comeback.

MGM Soars 7% After Credit Suisse Expects it to More Than Double

investing.com – MGM Resorts stock (NYSE:MGM) climbed nearly 9% after Credit Suisse (NYSE:CS) said the stock should more than double from its previous target of $33.

The stock touched $48.30 Tuesday as the brokerage upgraded the stock to outperform from neutral and pegged the target at $68, around 41% higher than its current price.

Analyst to Ben Combes said the market isn’t appreciating enough the transformation MGM has undergone, recently announcing four transactions.

In one of the deals announced last month, MGM Resorts said it will buy The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas from Blackstone (NYSE:BX) for $1.62 billion.

Combes counts three reasons as drivers for the upside in the stock. These include a cleaner and a more simplified organization with a more attractive capital structure, upside to numbers and an improving sentiment.

(Reuters) - MGM Resorts (NYSE:MGM) International on Monday offered to acquire Swedish online gaming company LeoVegas AB for about $607 million, paving the way for the U.S. casino operator to expand its presence in Europe.

MGM floated a recommended public tender offer for 61 crowns ($6.20) in cash per share, which represents a 44.2% premium to LeoVegas' last closing price of 42.32 crowns.

MGM has been looking to capitalise on the sports-betting arena through its joint venture BetMGM, which forecast earlier this year more than $1.3 billion in revenue for 2022, as the coronavirus pandemic fuelled demand for online gaming.

"We have achieved remarkable success with BetMGM in the U.S., and with the acquisition of LeoVegas in Europe we will expand our online gaming presence globally," MGM Resorts Chief Executive Officer Bill Hornbuckle said in a statement.

LeoVegas, which has licences in eight jurisdictions primarily in the Nordics and rest of Europe, said it recommended its shareholders to accept MGM's offer.

The acceptance period of the offer will begin during June and expire on or around August 2022.

Macau casino revenues surge in Jan after COVID rules lifted

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Macau posted an 82.5% year-on-year rise in gambling revenue to 11.6 billion patacas ($1.4 billion) in January, after the world's biggest gambling hub had nearly half a million visitor arrivals over the week-long Lunar New Year holiday.

The crowds were the biggest in more than three years, but January's revenue was still less than half of the Lunar New Year period in 2019 prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, according to data released by Macau's government on Wednesday.

Still investors took cheer, sending shares in Macau casinos up between 3% to 5%, while executives and analysts said it was an encouraging sign of a solid recovery to come.

A special administrative region of China, Macau has seen a resurgence of tourists from the mainland since Jan. 8 after the territory dropped all COVID-19 testing requirements for inbound travellers from the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Tens of thousands of tourists streamed daily into Macau's casinos and picturesque cobbled streets over the Lunar New Year holiday from Jan. 21, a stark contrast to the dearth of visitors into the former Portuguese colony since 2020.

Macau is the only place in the country where gambling in casinos is legal. It had closely followed China's zero-COVID strategy since 2019 and re-opened alongside the mainland.

January's revenues were the first for Sands China (OTC:SCHYY), Wynn Macau (OTC:WYNMF), MGM China (OTC:MCHVY), Galaxy Entertainment, MGM China and SJM Holdings (OTC:SJMHF) under new 10-year contracts.

The casinos had launched under 20-year contracts in 2002, raking in billions of dollars and turning a sleepy fishing village into a glitzy boomtown.

The new contracts, with more government oversight and control, were struck after COVID-19 restrictions decimated Macau's gambling revenues and sent net debt soaring. The industry had its worst revenue performance on record in 2022.

The city's once lucrative VIP industry has also collapsed following several arrests in Macau's junket industry. A Macau court on Jan. 18 sentenced Alvin Chau, one of the city's most well-known figures, to 18 years in prison.

NEW ERA

Casinos have committed to investing a total of $15 billion in the coming decade, 90% of which must be spent on developing non-gaming plans that include an indoor waterpark, health and wellness centres, art exhibitions and a large garden attraction by Sands, similar to Singapore's Gardens by the Bay.

Stakes are high as to whether they can successfully deliver on a government mandate to increase non-gaming revenues to more than 30% versus of the total versus an average of 5% pre-COVID.

In Las Vegas, around 50% of revenues are non-gaming.

Rob Goldstein, chairman and chief executive of Las Vegas Sands (NYSE:LVS), majority owner of Sands China, said the company was seeing a very strong recovery in Macau since the lifting of COVID restrictions.

"We're just thrilled to be open and making money and seeing demand like we're seeing," he told an analysts call last week.

However, labour shortages are becoming apparent as resorts and retail stores rush to boost staff to keep up with demand, and a Sands executive said it was not operating some hotels at full capacity as a result.

MGM Resorts natychmiast wszczęło dochodzenie z pomocą zewnętrznych ekspertów ds. cyberbezpieczeństwa i powiadomiło organy ścigania.

Pomimo tych wyzwań firma utrzymywała, że jej ośrodki działają, a goście mogą uzyskać dostęp do swoich pokoi hotelowych i personelu recepcji gotowego do pomocy w razie potrzeby.

Jednak goście zgłaszali znaczne zakłócenia, o czym świadczą posty w mediach społecznościowych pokazujące długie kolejki do odprawy i nieprawidłowo działające automaty do gier. Niektórzy klienci podzielili się historiami o tym, że nie mogą dokonywać transakcji kartą kredytową lub uzyskiwać dostępu do pokoi hotelowych za pomocą kart-kluczy.

Do środy, 13 września, sytuacja pozostała nierozwiązana. Strony internetowe MGM Resorts były nadal niedostępne, zmuszając firmę do kierowania klientów na strony internetowe stron trzecich w celu dokonania rezerwacji.

Obecny cyberatak wzbudził obawy o bezpieczeństwo wrażliwych danych klientów i odporność środków cyberbezpieczeństwa MGM Resorts.

MGM Resorts estimates loss of $110 million due to cybersecurity breach

MGM Resorts (NYSE:MGM) International recently faced a sophisticated cyberattack that compromised customer data and caused an estimated $110 million loss. The company promptly reacted to the attack, shutting down systems to prevent further breaches. Normal operations resumed shortly after, with the company incurring $10 million in one-time expenses related to the incident. Despite the disruption, MGM reported an 88% occupancy rate in September.

The breach affected MGM's U.S. systems, as disclosed in an SEC Form 8-K on September 12. The company successfully barred the criminal actors from accessing financial data, but this swift action led to some disruption in occupancy. The now-contained incident is expected to cost about $100 million in Q3. Compromised personal data includes Social Security and passport numbers of customers who used MGM's services before March 2019.

CEO Bill Hornbuckle reassured customers, stating that while contact details and driver's license numbers were accessed during the attack, the hackers did not breach The Cosmopolitan or any bank details. He also expressed confidence that cybersecurity insurance would cover the losses incurred due to the attack.

To strengthen its security measures and prevent future breaches, MGM is working with industry-leading third-party experts to enhance system safeguards.
