Taki opis w połączeniu z marką Porsche od razu kojarzy się z kolejnym szybkim coupe. Tym razem mowa jednak o pralce. Nie byle jakiej pralce, bo drogiej (cena w przeliczeniu wynosi około 2,9 tys. USD) i przygotowanej specjalnie na chiński rynek. Pralkę Panasonic Alpha stworzyło studio projektowe Porsche, które w swoim portfolio ma również zegarki, torby i inne przedmioty codziennego użytku. Koncerny Tesla i Panasonic zawiesiły plany zwiększenia mocy produkcyjnych w ich wspólnej fabryce w USA, która powstała kosztem 4,5 mld USD. Uzasadniają swoją decyzję niepewnym popytem na pojazdy elektryczne, donosi Bloomberg powołując się na japoński dziennik Nikkei.

Amerykańsko-japoński duet zamierzał zwiększyć moce produkcyjne zakładu zlokalizowanego w Nevadzie o 50 proc. do 2020 r. do równowartości 54 gigawatogodzin. Zdaniem Nikkei, problemy finansowe zmusiły do przemyślenia i weryfikacji wcześniejszych planów.

Dodatkowo Panasonic zamierza również zawiesić planowaną inwestycję w fabrykę akumulatorów koncernu Tesla w Szanghaju, a zamiast tego zapewnić wsparcie techniczne i niewielką liczbę baterii z istniejącej Gigafactory w USA.

Rekordowy spadek dostaw samochodów Tesli w minionym kwartale wzbudził obawy o spadek popytu na sedan Model 3, który amerykański potentat zaczął sprzedawać mniej niż dwa lata temu. W pierwszych trzech miesiącach 2019 r. Tesla dostarczyła 63 tys. pojazdów elektrycznych wobec 90 966 w ostatnich trzech miesiącach 2018 r.

Panasonic expects net profit to fall 29.6% on sluggish China sales and auto battery investment

Panasonic Corp. said Thursday it expects its group net profit to fall 29.6 percent to ¥200 billion ($1.82 billion) for the current fiscal year, which ends next March, dragged down by sluggish sales in China and hefty investment in the auto battery segment.

Group sales are projected to slip 1.3 percent to ¥7.90 trillion, as demand for electronic parts and industrial components is expected to remain slow in China amid the country’s heightening trade friction with the United States.

It is uncertain how big an impact additional U.S. tariffs on imports from China will have on its customers, Panasonic Chief Financial Officer Hirokazu Umeda said at a news conference.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration raised duties on $200 billion of Chinese goods from 10 percent to 25 percent on Friday.

The company forecast its group operating profit would also decrease 27.1 percent to ¥300 billion, even as it expects to book a gain of around ¥90 billion related to a planned merger of its housing business with that of Toyota Motor Corp.

Panasonic CEO outlines cutting costs and money-losing divisions

Panasonic Corp. Chief Executive Officer Kazuhiro Tsuga says he is getting serious about profits.

Businesses that chronically lose money and operations that have little prospect of healthy profits will have to go, Tsuga said at a briefing in Tokyo on Friday, declining to name specific divisions. The company will end production of some products — the withdrawal from making liquid crystal displays had already been announced Thursday — and other units could be combined. Panasonic also plans a wave of consolidations in far-flung bases from Latin America to Europe and Japan.

Panasonic is targeting ¥100 billion ($920 million) in savings in the fiscal year ending March 2022. Reduction in personnel costs through natural attrition and retirement plus trimming and consolidation of operations will contribute ¥30 billion each. Closing unprofitable businesses will save another ¥40 billion.

Panasonic’s stock, which is little changed from the start of the year, closed 1.5 percent lower in Tokyo on Friday.

Tokyo, Nov. 17 (Jiji Press)--Panasonic Corp. <6752> President Kazuhiro Tsuga said Tuesday that the group will focus on battery and three other business divisions to achieve growth.
In a management plan briefing in Tokyo, Tsuga said the four divisions, also including white goods and electrical equipment, business-use systems and instruments, and electronic components, will lead the group's growth.

Panasonic Corp. on Tuesday raised its earnings forecasts for the current year through March, projecting a net profit of ¥150 billion ($1.4 billion), helped by stronger-than-expected sales in home appliances and a pickup in demand for automotive equipment.

The figure, revised upward from the company’s earlier estimate of ¥100 billion in net profit, would still mean a 33.5% drop from a year earlier.

Sales are now expected to drop 11.9% to ¥6.6 trillion, up from the ¥6.5 trillion previously forecast, while operating profit will likely decrease 21.7% to ¥230 billion, revised upward from ¥150 billion.

Despite the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic, Panasonic has more upbeat views on its segments dealing with home appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners, automotive equipment and industrial solutions.

“People apparently want household items with more value added because they spend more time at home amid the pandemic and care about things that they didn’t before,” Chief Financial Officer Hirokazu Umeda said during an online news briefing.

“Between October and December, economic activity was stable and demand was strong from the auto industry, which sought to recover after production was suspended in the first quarter. That’s why we decided to revise upward the outlook,” Umeda said.

The business outlook for the connected solutions segment handling electronic devices for aircraft was cut by ¥80 billion, as the airline industry continues to see slumping travel demand due to the COVID-19 crisis.

For the April-December period, the Osaka-based firm’s net profit slipped 26.9% from a year before to ¥130.14 billion, due to the lingering impact of the sluggish automotive segment, which was hit by factory shutdowns earlier in the business year. Slumping sales in aviation electronics also weighed on the figure.

Operating profit shrank 5.8% to ¥226.80 billion after sales fell 15.3% to ¥4.87 trillion.

Panasonic has been streamlining its business portfolios to improve its profitability and is ramping up the output capacity of batteries for U.S. electric vehicle maker Tesla Inc., which has enjoyed strong sales.

Panasonic said Monday it will end solar cell production at its factories in Malaysia and Japan by the close of the next fiscal year to March 2022, withdrawing from the business.
