INTERVIEW: TEPCO Eyeing Floating Wind Farms in 2nd Half of 2020s
Tokyo, Sept. 8 (Jiji Press)--A renewable energy unit of Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. <9501> plans to begin fully working on floating offshore wind farms in the second half of this decade, Seiichi Fubasami, president of the subsidiary, has said in a recent online interview.
The Japanese government places offshore wind power at the center of its plan to expand the use of renewable energy, aiming to increase wind power generation capacity in the country to a maximum of 45 gigawatts by 2040 on a planning basis.

(Update) TEPCO Forecasts 1st Annual Net Loss in 9 Years
Tokyo, Oct. 27 (Jiji Press)--Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. <9501> said Wednesday that the company is now bracing for a consolidated net loss of 16 billion yen for the year through March 2022, against the previous year's net profit of 180.8 billion yen.
The annual net loss would be the first for the company in nine years. TEPCO had earlier estimated a net profit of 67 billion yen for the current business year.

Fukushima, June 2 (Jiji Press)--A Japanese court ordered Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. <9501> on Thursday to pay a total of some 73.5 million yen in damages to residents near its disaster-crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant.

In the lawsuit, 525 plaintiffs had sought a total of some 6 billion yen in damages from TEPCO and the Japanese government, claiming that they suffered mental distress as they lost their community ties due to the March 2011 meltdown accident at the plant.

The plaintiffs include residents in a former emergency evacuation preparation zone in the Miyakoji district of Tamura, Fukushima Prefecture.

In the ruling, the Koriyama branch of Fukushima District Court did not acknowledge the government's liability.

At the court branch, presiding Judge Yohei Motomura said that the residents deserve about 1.2 billion yen in compensation as anxiety about radiation exposure and prolonged evacuation caused them mental distress.

Tokyo, Jan. 23 (Jiji Press)--Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. <9501> on Monday applied for government approval of a plan to raise its regulated electricity rates for households by 29.31 pct on average.
The company submitted the application to the industry ministry, aiming to start the new rates in June to improve its business performance, hurt by soaring fuel prices worsened by Russia's invasion of Ukraine as well as the yen's weakening.

TEPCO to Receive 400-B.-Yen Bank Loans
Tokyo, Feb. 14 (Jiji Press)--Major Japanese banks plan to lend 400 billion yen in total to Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. <9501> as early as April, it was learned Tuesday.
The Development Bank of Japan, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp., Mizuho Bank and seven other banks will support the power supplier's efforts to raise funds and improve its financial base at a time when its earnings are pressured by higher prices of liquefied natural gas and other energy sources due chiefly to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

TEPCO Narrows Planned Electricity Price Hikes to 17 Pct
Tokyo, March 30 (Jiji Press)--Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. <9501> said Thursday that it has narrowed its planned electricity price hikes for households to an average of 17.6 pct from 29.3 pct as of January.
The revision came after an expert panel at the industry ministry, which is examining applications submitted by TEPCO and other power companies to raise their regulated electricity rates, decided earlier this month that their price hikes should reflect a recent fall in fuel prices.
