Zrobiła to jednak w sposób na tyle niedookreślony, iż pozostawia on pole na pewną interpretację. McD bowiem zapewnił, że zmiana ma dotyczyć świń w "potwierdzonej ciąży". Jak opisuje Bloomberg, zwierzęta mogą jednak być wciąż zamykane w małych klatkach od czasu zapłodnienia do potwierdzenia ciąży, czyli nawet przez pięć tygodni z szesnastu - tyle trwa cała ciąża.

Jak informują światowe agencje informacyjne, sieć restauracji McDonald planuje tymczasowo zamknąć 850 restauracji w Rosji w odpowiedzi na inwazję na Ukrainę.

Media powołują się na słowa prezesa i dyrektora generalnego McDonald's Chrisa Kempczinskiego, który poinformował w liście otwartym pracowników, że choć restauracje będą zamknięte, korporacja będzie nadal płacić 62 tysiącom pracownikom w Rosji.

Amerykańska sieć barów szybkiej obsługi McDonald's poinformowała we wtorek o czasowym zamknięciu swoich restauracji i zawieszeniu całej działalności w Rosji. To oczywiście efekt wojny w Ukrainie i bezpodstawnej inwazji wojsk Władimira Putina w tym kraju.

Choć wojna trwa już dwa tygodnie, to amerykański gigant podjął decyzję dopiero we wtorek (9 marca). McDonald's początkowo nie zamierzał tracić wielkiego rynku zbytu, jednak ugiął się pod presją społeczeństwa z całego świata.

Sieć fast-foodów zapowiedziała jednak, że nadal będzie wypłacać pensje swoim 62 tys. pracowników w Rosji - poinformowała agencja Reuters.

We współpracy z raperem Pushą T nagrali ,,diss", czyli utwór wymierzony i obrażając kogoś, a celem jest McDonald's.

Raper w utworze bierze na cel kanapkę Filet-O-Fish McDonalda, która, jak wynika z utworu, zdecydowanie nie przypadła mu do gustu. "Powinieneś być zniesmaczony / Jak śmiesz sprzedawać kwadratową rybę, prosząc nas, abyśmy jej zaufali / Pół plasterka sera, Mickey D ma ograniczony budżet?", jak rapuje Pusha T w tym 75-sekundowym utworze-reklamie. Raper dodaje także, że produt McDonalda jest ,,utopiony w tatarze" i ,,nie ma smaku". Jako przeciwieństwo jest przedstawiony oczywiście produkt Arby's, chwalony za świeżą rybę i chrupiący smak. Dissowi towarzyszy również wideo, na którym pojawiają się rapowane linijki i kilka ujęć burgera Arby's. Pojawia się także scena z klaunem, co jest jawnym nawiązaniem do symbolu McD, czyli Ronalda McDonalda.

75-sekundowa piosenka została zainspirowana, jak powiedział raper dla Rolling Stone, urazą na McDonald's. Pusha T twierdzi, że sieciówka nie zapłaciła mu i jego bratu należycie za ich udział w pisaniu i wykonywaniu słynnego dżingla I'm Lovin' It. Jednak początki i proces jego powstania są kwestionowane.

Golden arches to go dark in Russia as McDonald's exits after 30 years

Reuters) -McDonald's Corp on Monday became one of the biggest global brands to exit Russia, laying out plans to sell all its restaurants after operating in the country for more than 30 years following the invasion of Ukraine.

The world's largest burger chain, which owns about 84% of its nearly 850 restaurants in Russia, will take a related non-cash charge of up to $1.4 billion following its sale.

McDonald's (NYSE:MCD) had in March decided to close its restaurants in the country, including the iconic Pushkin Square location in central Moscow - a symbol of flourishing American capitalism in the dying embers of the Soviet Union.

The burger chain represented the thawing of Cold War tensions and became a way to sample Western food and spirit for millions of people, even though the cost of a burger was several times bigger than the daily budgets of many city dwellers.

"Some might argue that providing access to food and continuing to employ tens of thousands of ordinary citizens is surely the right thing to do," Chief Executive Chris Kempczinski said in a letter to employees. "But it is impossible to ignore the humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine."

Though a vast majority of the stores in Russia are closed, a few franchised stores have stayed open, cashing in on the sky-rocketing popularity of McDonald's.

Over the weekend, long queues were seen at the restaurant in Moscow's Leningradsky Station, one of the capital's only branches that was open, social media footage showed.

The company last year generated about 9%, or $2 billion, of its revenue from Russia and Ukraine.

RETAINS TRADEMARK

McDonald's is looking to sell its restaurants to a local buyer and would not allow the stores to use its name, logo, branding and menu, retaining its trademark in Russia.

"It (trademark) gives them the option longer term to be able to re-enter the market," Edward Jones analyst Brian Yarbrough said.

The company said it would ensure its 62,000 employees in Russia continue to be paid until the close of any transaction and that they have future jobs with any potential buyer.

McDonald's restaurants are expected to start reopening under a new ownership in June, a source close to the company in Russia said.

"It is a hit for McDonald's financially, but it shows that Western companies and brands are calculating that either they cannot do business in Russia or the costs, including reputational costs, are just too high," Paul Musgrave, a political science professor at the University of Massachusetts, said.

Earlier in the day, French carmaker Renault (EPA:RENA) said it would sell its majority stake in Avtovaz to a Russian science institute, as companies scramble to comply with sanctions and deal with threats from the Kremlin that foreign-owned assets may be seized.

Analysts expect more major brands to follow McDonald's. Starbucks Corp (NASDAQ:SBUX) and Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO) Co have already paused operations in Russia.

"I would not be surprised to see other companies follow McDonald's lead of exiting the market," Edward Jones' Yarbrough said.

BOSTON (Reuters) - Shareholders have reelected all of McDonald's Corp (NYSE:MCD)'s directors, the company said on Thursday, ending a boardroom battle with billionaire investor Carl Icahn who had sought to win two board seats and shine a spotlight on his campaign over animal welfare.

Preliminary tallies showed shareholders backed all 12 of McDonald's directors and that Icahn's two nominees received approximately 1% of the vote, the company said.

"McDonald’s shareholders value a Board of Directors with a breadth of experiences to advise the Brand on the multitude of issues that can impact the business on a daily basis," board chairman Enrique Hernandez, Jr. said in a statement.

Icahn, who has made a career out of pushing poor-performing companies to improve, owns roughly $50,000 worth of McDonald's stock, and nominated two candidates to push the company to make good on a decade-old promise to stop buying pork by the end of this year from suppliers that house the animals in crates.

He has said confining the pigs in crates during their pregnancy is inhumane and sought to shine a spotlight on the practice more broadly.

McDonald's said on Thursday that it is committed to remaining a leader on environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives, including animal welfare.

Icahn had appealed to large index funds that often pay more attention to ESG issues to back him in his bid to win the board seats, but preliminary tallies showed that BlackRock (NYSE:BLK) supported McDonald's.

(Reuters) - McDonald's Russia aims to reopen all restaurants in two months, its new owner Alexander Govor was quoted as saying on Friday, and to expand to 1,000 locations from the 850 he took over last month.

In May, McDonald's Corp (NYSE:MCD) sold the restaurants to Govor, one of its licensees in Russia, who will rebrand them under a new name, ending more than three decades of the "Golden Arches" in the country.

"We have a challenging and ambitious plan - to reopen all of the chain's restaurants in two months," Govor, who initially owned 25 McDonald's restaurants in Siberia as a franchisee, said in the interview with the Forbes Russia magazine.

McDonald's temporarily closed its restaurants in Russia in March after Russia sent troops to Ukraine.

"There are now 840 restaurants ready to be relaunched... My global plan is to increase the chain to 1,000 restaurants nationwide in the next few years," Govor told Forbes in his first interview since the deal.

McDonald's Russia plans to reopen its restaurant in Pushkin Square on June 12. It was its first location in Russia, opening in 1990 and becoming a symbol of American capitalism flourishing as the Soviet Union was collapsing.

Govor said the process to choose a new brand name was ongoing.

According to Russia's anti-monopoly service, which approved the takeover, McDonald's retains the right to buy its Russia restaurants back within 15 years.

Govor, who built his fortune in the Russian coal and oil sectors, declined to say how much he paid but said there were other bidders who wanted to take over the entire chain.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Big Macs and McFlurrys may be off the menu at McDonald's successor restaurants in Russia, but the new firm has ambitious growth targets after it sold almost 120,000 burgers, a record, on its opening day, its chief executive told Reuters.

McDonald's Corp (NYSE:MCD) has fully exited Russia, selling all the restaurants it owned to a local licensee in May. Under new name Vkusno & tochka, or "Tasty and that's it," 50 restaurants in and around Moscow reopened on June 12 and June 13.

Chief Executive Oleg Paroev is keen to add locations, but acknowledged the challenge of replacing some ingredients and suppliers, as well as dealing with other franchisees still using McDonald's branding.

The McDonald's exit saga shows both how difficult it is for Western consumer businesses that decided to leave over Moscow's actions in Ukraine to sever all ties to Russia and for local operators to replace popular brands.

Thousands who came to Vkusno & tochka's flagship opening in Moscow's Pushkin Square were greeted by a new logo, colour scheme and packaging shorn of all McDonald's branding, as the new company lost the right to the U.S. group's trademarks and intellectual property.

"On the first day we sold almost 120,000 burgers," Paroev said. "We have never seen such daily turnover in the whole time McDonald's has worked in Russia."

While Paroev does not expect such demand to last, he aims to exceed new owner Alexander Govor's growth target and accomplish that ahead of schedule. Govor's goal is to reach 1,000 stores in four to five years, up from around 850 under McDonald's brand.

Hiring is continuing, Paroev said, who also wants to expand cooperation with strategic partner Sberbank, though ruled out a shareholder role for Russia's top lender.

MCDONALD'S RETURN?

Govor, who previously ran 25 restaurants, said at the launch that he paid a "symbolic" sum for McDonald's Russia and that the U.S. corporation had made it clear they would not exercise a 15-year buyback option.

Paroev, voicing his personal opinion, said McDonald's could return to Russia if Vkusno & tochka became a franchisee again, but stressed there had been no discussions to that effect.

In an emailed statement, McDonald's said it has "finalised the sale of its Russian business and exited the market."

FRANCHISE CONUNDRUM

Some former McDonald's franchisees have kept its branding on packaging and electronic menus and are selling Big Macs under a different name, creating a headache for Vkusno & tochka.

"Of course we're not happy about this," Paroev said.

While continued use of the McDonald's brand is a violation of Russian law, the company cannot take legal action because it has no rights to the brand, he said.

Rosinter Restaurants, an ex-franchisee still operating in train stations and St Petersburg's Pulkovo airport, did not respond to a request for comment.

Vkusno & tochka has proposed ex-franchisees join the new brand, Paroev said, with one having already agreed.

Govor bought around 700 restaurants, Paroev said, leaving about 100 unaccounted for and while Vkusno & tochka still has access to old suppliers, other ex-franchisees do not.

"It's a mystery to me what products are sold there," he said of restaurants in train stations and airports, speaking on Friday. "But I can say with certainty that it is absolutely not the same products or ingredients that were previously sold at McDonald's."

SUPPLIER HEADACHE

Vkusno & tochka is determined to maintain product quality, Paroev said, but keeping a familiar taste is a challenge.

Even though 99% of products come from Russian suppliers, Paroev said "a significant percentage" of ingredients is sourced abroad, a process complicated by sanctions and supply chain disruptions.

Vkusno & tochka is looking for a new drinks provider, as Coca Cola is depleting its Russia stock, Paroev said. The coffee blend will stay, he said, supplied now by an Indian investor who bought the Russian operations of Finland's Paulig.

As agreed with McDonald's, recipes will change and a Big Mac replacement is in the works, Paroev said.

"This is quite a big loss," he said. "The fact it has now gone from the menu does not help us."

Establishing the new brand will take time, but Paroev was optimistic.

"Our guests will get used to the new name and understand that they are no longer at a 'Mac', but at a 'tochka'."

McDonald's director targeted by Icahn to leave in board shift

NEW YORK (Reuters) -McDonald's Corp has amended its board, the fast-food chain said on Monday, and the director being replaced had been targeted by activist investor Carl Icahn who sought to tighten the company's animal welfare policies.

Sheila Penrose, who will retire effective Sept. 1, was one of two incumbent board members Icahn sought to replace with his own nominees. In May, investors reelected all 12 of McDonald's (NYSE:MCD) directors, including Penrose, handing Icahn a loss in that battle over the treatment of pregnant pigs by pork suppliers.

Days after losing that fight, Icahn ended a similar effort targeting supermarket chain Kroger (NYSE:KR) Co over the way meat producers confine pregnant pigs to crates.

Penrose, who was a McDonald's director for 15 years, led the board's sustainablity and corporate responsibility efforts, the company said in a statement.

Investors have also criticized the Chicago-based company for having too many directors who have served for too long. Chairman Enrique Hernandez has been on the board since 1996, for instance.

On Monday, McDonald's said it elected three new board members: Marriott International (NASDAQ:MAR) Inc Chief Executive Officer Anthony Capuano, Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) Executive Vice President Jennifer Taubert and Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:CRM) Chief Financial Officer Amy Weaver. (Reuters) -McDonald's Corp beat quarterly comparable sales and profit estimates on Thursday, helped by higher menu prices and an increase in restaurant traffic from inflation-weary customers looking for value meals.

The company's shares rose 2.7% to $263.58 in premarket trading.

Like other fast-food chains, McDonald's (NYSE:MCD) has been forced to raise prices of its burgers and fries to keep up with surging commodity and labor costs, but its meals are still cheaper than eating out at dine-in restaurants keeping demand resilient even as consumer spending power gets crimped.

Visits to the burger chain's U.S. restaurants increased 6.2% in September, outpacing traffic to the broader quick-service restaurant space which rose just 0.8%, according to data from Placer.ai, a location analytics firm.

Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc (NYSE:CMG) on Tuesday also beat quarterly sales and profit estimates as it passed on higher prices to customers.

McDonald's global same-store sales increased 9.5% in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with estimates for a 5.8% rise, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.

The Chicago-based chain reported profit of $2.68 per share, beating estimates of $2.58 but still 6% lower than the same quarter last year.

Comparable sales for McDonald's in the United States, the company's biggest market, rose 6.1% in the reported quarter helped by higher prices.

McDonald's iconic Big Mac burger was selling for $5.15 in June, up from $4.93 a year earlier, according to the Economist magazine's widely used index of prices.

Analysts have noted that an easing in gas prices also boosted third-quarter restaurant sales in the United States in general after a slowdown in June.

However, McDonald's total revenue fell 5% to $5.87 billion, due to the impact of a stronger dollar, but still beat estimates of $5.69 billion.

Earnings of U.S.-based multinational companies are expected to take a hit in the third-quarter from the towering rally in the U.S. dollar.

McDonald's net income fell 8% to $1.98 billion, or $2.68 per share.
