Shell to acquire UK's largest electric vehicle charging network

(Reuters) - Royal Dutch Shell said on Monday it was acquiring the owner of the UK's largest public electric vehicle charging network, ubitricity, for an undisclosed amount.

The deal for the company that has over 2,700 on-street charge points in the country is expected to be completed late this year.

Electric vehicle sales are set to continue to soar in 2021, industry analysts and car distributors have said, as more models are brought to the market and governments push for use of cleaner energy to achieve climate goals.

The European Commission has already outlined https://www.reuters.com/article/autos-e ... edirect=in plans to further tighten car CO2 limits as part of its proposal for a tougher 2030 EU climate goal.

"This acquisition marks Shell's expansion into the fast-growing on-street EV charging market and will provide critical competencies, helping Shell to scale its overall EV charging offer," Shell said in a statement.

The oil giant is aiming to become a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050 or sooner.

Shell raises its dividend as profits surge

Royal Dutch Shell's (RDSa.L) profits leapt to $3.23 billion in the first three months of the year and the energy company raised its dividend as planned but warned that the outlook remained uncertain due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Shell's adjusted earnings were above an average analyst forecast of $3.125 billion and also ahead of earnings of $2.9 billion last year, boosted by assets sales as well as higher oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices, it said on Thursday.

Sales of oil and gas assets in countries including Nigeria, Canada and Egypt added $1.4 billion to first-quarter profits.

The Guardian: Ekologiczny bunt inwestorów trwa

Sąd w Hadze nakazał Shellowi zredukować emisję dwutlenku węgla o 45 proc. w porównaniu z poziomem z 2019 roku do końca obecnej dekady.

BlackRock CEO says Shell decarbonisation ruling “not a solution”

Last week’s Dutch court decision against Royal Dutch Shell is not the way to solve the global decarbonisation issue and risks shifting the problem to private firms, the head of the world’s largest money manager said on Thursday.

BlackRock CEO Larry Fink said the ruling that requires Shell to deepen its planned greenhouse gas emission cuts was an example of a general attitude that failed to address the overall problem.

The ruling, which could trigger legal action against other energy companies, is expected to force Shell to shed assets to comply.

Shell said it was disappointed with the ruling and planned to appeal.

“That (the ruling) doesn’t change the global footprint, that’s not a solution,” Fink told a conference on infrastructure investing.

“We’re doing a lot of greenwashing because we’re not changing the carbon footprint of the world. We may change the carbon footprint of a company.”

Fink said governments were not doing enough to ensure a widespread push towards a carbon-neutral future, creating an incentive for companies to offload their hydrocarbon businesses and cause a “huge capital markets arbitrage”.

“What I worry about is that we’re going to put all pressure on public (listed) companies and very little pressure on the private side,” he said.

“If we are really sincere about the world having a net zero carbon (status) in 2050, we cannot move these parts of the economy out of public entities into private hands. The net zero world doesn’t change, but the company looks better.”

Fink said investors had to work with energy companies to support their green transition and that BlackRock was engaging with those in which it holds stakes.

“It’s not running away from the current hydrocarbon companies, it’s working with them as they navigate the move forward,” Fink said.

BlackRock is the top investor in BP and last week backed a shareholder resolution from activist group Follow This asking the energy group to set deeper climate targets.

It has voiced support for energy transition strategies at Total and Shell at recent AGMs.

Shell Raises Dividend and Starts $2 Billion Share Buyback

(Bloomberg) -- Royal Dutch Shell (LON:RDSa) raised its dividend by almost 40% and said it will buy back $2 billion of shares, continuing an effort to win back investors as stronger oil prices and a buoyant chemicals market lifted earnings.

The move comes more than a year after Shell slashed its dividend by two-thirds. Two modest increases to the payout since then did little to boost the company’s appeal, with its shares still about 40% lower than pre-pandemic levels despite a full recovery in oil prices.

The big increases to shareholder returns announced on Thursday show a concerted effort to restore the Anglo-Dutch company’s reputation as a cash machine for investors.

“We are stepping up our shareholder distributions today, increasing dividends and starting share buybacks,” Chief Executive Officer Ben van Beurden said in a statement. “The quality of Shell’s operational and financial delivery and strengthened balance sheet have given the board confidence.”

Shell will pay a dividend of 24 cents a share for the second quarter, a 38% increase from 17.35 cents in the prior period. That’s still some way below the 47 cents a share the company paid out before the pandemic.

The increased payouts to shareholders follow in the footsteps of its European peers BP (NYSE:BP) Plc and Equinor ASA (NYSE:EQNR), but with buybacks on a much larger scale for 2021. The whole industry is boosting investor returns as it recovers from a historic downturn due to the coronavirus pandemic. TotalEnergies SE also said on Thursday that it will start repurchasing shares.

Shell’s second-quarter adjusted net income was $5.53 billion, compared with $638 million a year earlier. That was above the average estimate of $5.2 billion in a Bloomberg poll of 15 analysts.

Shell is proceeding with the buybacks after dropping its condition that net debt should fall below $65 billion before shareholder distributions increase. At the end of the second quarter, the company’s net debt was $65.7 billion.

Radość inwestorów
Shell. Potrzebny plan.

GSU
