Rolls-Royce Cullinan był za mało luksusowy. Polacy go poprawili

We wnętrzu wprowadzono więcej rewolucji.

Podwójnie doładowana jednostka rozwija 563 KM mocy i 627 Nm momentu obrotowego.

BMW Unveils Plans to Use Cylindrical Batteries in New EVs From 2025

Investing.com -- Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (ETR:BMWG) has announced that it will use cylindrical battery cells to power its new electric vehicles set to debut in 2025, in a bid to accelerate charging times and increase the cars' driving range.

The German luxury carmaker said it has already awarded production contracts worth "multibillion" euros to China's CATL and EVE Energy. Both of these firms will manufacture the batteries at four gigafactories in China and Europe with a total annual capacity of up to 20 gigawatts hours, BMW added.

Two further sites are planned in the United States and Mexico, although BMW has yet to find a partner for these projects.

BMW called the cylindrical lithium-ion battery cells a "huge leap in technology" that will utilize more nickel and silicon to improve charging speed and driving range by up to 30%. Meanwhile, energy density will also be improved by over 20%, which will cut costs almost in half when compared to previous battery generations.

The company also pledged to bring manufacturing expenses for EVs down to the "same level as vehicles with state-of-the-art combustion-engine technology."

The shift to cylindrical battery cells, and away from the rectangular-shaped prismatic batteries it currently uses, follows a similar move by rival Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA). Supporters of cylindrical batteries say its format - which is larger than prismatic batteries - can raise energy density and, in turn, be more cost-effective.

Shares in BMW traded higher after the announcement on Friday.

BMW tests hydrogen burner at German plant, expands battery assembly lines

LEIPZIG, Germany (Reuters) -BMW is testing a burner able to operate on both hydrogen and gas in its paint shop in Leipzig, the carmaker said on Thursday, as it also announced an 800-million-euro ($782 million) investment in new battery assembly lines at the plant.

The burner, developed together with combustion technology firm Saacke to reduce carbon emissions in the production process, is able to switch from hydrogen to gas or vice versa while in use.

For now, the carmaker buys hydrogen made with natural gas and buys certificates for green hydrogen, made by the same producer using electrolysers powered by renewable energy, to balance out its carbon footprint.

In future, it plans to obtain green hydrogen directly into the plant through an externally run pipeline expected to be running from 2024.

Carmakers looking to reduce dependence on Russian gas have been struggling to find a solution for how to power their paint shops without it.

If the pilot burner survives the test and enough green hydrogen is available, all the burners in the paint shop - among the most energy-intensive portion of the car manufacturing line - could be converted to hydrogen, plant director Petra Peterhaensel said.

BMW already uses a fleet of hydrogen-powered trucks for logistics transport and five storage tanks on the premises.

Green hydrogen has been touted as key to decarbonising industries reliant on coal, gas and oil, but has traditionally been far more expensive to make than other forms of hydrogen - four times more so than hydrogen made from gas, BMW's own supplier told local press in March.

But soaring natural gas prices are making hydrogen produced from fossil fuels increasingly uneconomic, spurring new interest in green hydrogen.

Also on Thursday, BMW said it was adding a third battery assembly line and five cell varnishing lines to the Leipzig plant by 2024, with two more high voltage battery assembly lines to follow after that.

The carmaker assembles batteries in two further plants in Germany - Dingolfing and Regensburg - as well as its U.S. Spartanburg site and its Shenyang plant in China.

BMW Q3 Results Beat Estimates Amid Boost from Price Increases

Investing.com -- Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (ETR:BMWG) posted a jump in third-quarter income and sales, beating consensus estimates for both figures, thanks to higher pricing and strong demand for fully-electric vehicles.

The German car manufacturer reported group earnings before interest and taxes for the three months ended on September 30 of 3.68B euros ($3.59B), an increase of 27.7%, while revenues climbed to just under 37.18B euros.

Analysts had predicted a quarterly core profit of 3.63B euros and turnover of 35.37B euros.

An uptick in pricing for new and used vehicles, itself a response to a rise in raw material and energy expenses, helped fuel BMW's performance during the period.

Deliveries of all-electric cars - in particular of BMW's iX3, iX and i4 models - doubled versus the previous year to over 128,000 units.

But the number of total vehicles shipped to customers, excluding motorcycles, slipped marginally as the firm continued to grabble with supply chain disruptions stemming from strict COVID-19 lockdowns in China. Despite this decrease, BMW still reiterated its guidance for full-year core earnings margin of 7% - 9% at its key automobiles segment.

Meanwhile, income at BMW's financial services unit - which provides funding options to buyers - missed expectations, as the business took out greater provisions against bad loans in the face of "geopolitical uncertainties and [the] weaker macroeconomic outlook."

Looking ahead, BMW warned that elevated inflation and interest rates will likely impact consumer purchasing in the coming months. It added that raw material costs will remain high, but said it does not see energy supply shortages disrupting production.

Shares in BMW fell in early European trading on Thursday.

Rio Tinto enters agreement with BMW to provide hydro-produced aluminum

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Rio Tinto (NYSE:RIO) on Tuesday said it would supply BMW with aluminum it produces in Canada using hydroelectric power, lowering the auto manufacturer's carbon footprint with respect to its procurement of the automotive metal.

The UK-based mining company and the German automaker announced in separate statements that they had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for Rio Tinto's hydro-powered operations in Canada to provide a BMW production plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, with an unspecified amount of aluminum starting in 2024 -- a move that "could generate a reduction of up to 70 percent in CO2 emissions compared to the BMW Group's benchmark for aluminum," according to Rio Tinto.

"The agreement to supply low-carbon aluminium" is also aimed at "ramping up our use of aluminium with no direct CO2 emissions from the smelting process," wrote Joachim Post, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, which is responsible for its purchasing and supplier network.

BERLIN (Reuters) -BMW reported a 12% rise in fourth-quarter earnings on Thursday that lagged some analysts' expectations, sending shares in the German automaker as much as 3.7% lower.

Jefferies analysts said quarterly pretax profit missed expectations by 5%, and full-year earnings were also below consensus, despite jumping 50% - mostly due to the inclusion of the carmaker's Chinese joint venture.

Deliveries rose just over 10% in the quarter as an easing of chip supply problems offset the impact of lockdowns in China, while group revenue climbed 28% to 142.6 billion euros ($150.7 billion), versus a Refinitiv SmartEstimate of 141.6 billion.

The company also said it was promoting Walter Mertl to chief financial officer to replace Nicolas Peter when he retires in May.

BMW, which is due to report full annual results on March 15, warned late last year that although it expected improved sales in the fourth quarter, rising inflation and interest rates would start to weigh on demand, particularly in Europe.

The carmaker has so far weathered supply chain troubles brought on by the pandemic and Russia's invasion of Ukraine in part by raising prices.

Its autos business reported an 8.6% margin on 2022 earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of 10.6 billion euros and cash flow of 11.1 billion euros.

Almost half of the latter came from a cash contribution from Chinese joint venture BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA).

It proposed a dividend to shareholders of 8.50 euros, up from 5.80 a year earlier.

BMW said last February it would pay 3.7 billion euros to take majority control of BBA after securing the necessary licence from Beijing, increasing its stake to 75% from 50%.

The company said over the year it had faced higher costs of sale, including materials, commodities, logistics and refinancing.

BMW's operations beyond automobiles include motorcycles and financial services.

BMW loses steam after forecasting end to price hikes

Investing.com -- BMW (ETR:BMWG) shares faltered in early trading in Germany on Wednesday despite the carmaker giving a generally upbeat forecast for the year ahead.

The group said it expects to generate a profit before interest and taxes of between 8% and 10% of sales in 2023, a number that's in line with its historical range and reflects a normalization of business after three wild years of upheaval caused by the pandemic and the transition to electric mobility.

However, investors zeroed in on a line that said it expects prices to stabilize, suggesting that the company has exhausted its capacity to pass on higher input costs to its largely wealthy customer base. Some sharp price increases last year helped BMW raise its net profit by 49% to €18.6 billion (€1 = $1.0730), despite a 2.4% drop in deliveries. Deliveries are expected to increase only "slightly" in the coming year, it noted.

The group predicted a year of "profitable growth in a persistently challenging business environment," marked by strong growth in sales of its electric vehicles, which more than doubled last year to account for 9% of deliveries. Another 9% of its sales were hybrids.

This year, it expects the share of battery electric vehicles to rise to 15%, chief executive Oliver Zipse said in a statement. The company says it's on track to reach its target of 10 million EV sales a year well ahead of its 2030 deadline.

The main growth drivers in 2023 will be BEVs and models from its high-end premium segment, which includes the BMW 7 Series and the Rolls-Royce brand. Here, the group expects growth of around 15%, with BEV sales nearly doubling.

By 05:15 ET (10:15 GMT), BMW stock was up 0.1% in Frankfurt, roughly unchanged from a year ago, when Russia's invasion of Ukraine upended the business model of most German manufacturers.
