Joe Lycett, brytyjski komik, zmienił swoje imię i nazwisko — poinformował portal BBC News. Od tej pory będzie się nazywał Hugo Boss, tak jak niemiecka firma modowa.

W ten sposób chciał zaprotestować przeciwko polityce słynnej marki ubraniowej wobec małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw. „To oczywiste, że Hugo Boss nienawidzi, kiedy ludzie posługują się tą nazwą” — napisał niedawno na Twitterze Joe Lycett. W tym samym poście poinformował, że „na nieszczęście dla nich” legalnie zmienił nazwisko i od tej pory oficjalnie można się do niego zwracać Hugo Boss. Chodziło mu — wyjaśnił portal — o zaprotestowanie przeciwko roszczeniom producenta ubrań i perfum wobec przedsiębiorców, którzy w swoich nazwach handlowych używają słowa „boss” (ang. szef). Media opisywały przypadki rozsyłania przez Hugo Bossa listów, w których domagał się od nich zmiany nazwy. O takiej sytuacji informował m.in. portal ITV, który w artykule opisał sprawę walijskiego browaru Boss Brewing. Producent piwa skarżył się, że musiał przeznaczyć prawie 10 tys. GBP, żeby bronić prawa do nazwy handlowej w procesie, który wytoczyła mu spółka Hugo Boss. Nie jest to jedyny taki przypadek. Komik podkreśla, że z powodu roszczeń marki modowej małe firmy wydają „tysiące funtów na rebranding”.

Hugo Boss scraps 2020 outlook, to guard cash flow
BERLIN (Reuters) - German fashion house Hugo Boss (DE:BOSSn) on Wednesday scrapped the outlook it gave for 2020 results less than two weeks ago and took action to protect its cash balance, suspending store renovations and new openings and limiting the inflow of stock.

As governments around the world impose restrictions on public life to try to contain the spread of the coronavirus, Hugo Boss said it had closed a large number of its retail stores as well as many concessions in Europe and North America.

Hugo Boss back at pre-pandemic sales in UK, China

BERLIN (Reuters) - German fashion house Hugo Boss said it expected a rebound in its business to continue in the second half of the year as sales recovered to pre-pandemic levels in Britain and China in the second quarter.

"We are well prepared to further drive our business recovery also in the second half of the year," said new Chief Executive Daniel Grieder, the former Tommy Hilfiger boss who is due to present his strategy later on Wednesday.

Hugo Boss shares were up 1.2% at 0738 GMT.

The company known for its smart men's suits said its core Boss brand saw sales down a currency-adjusted 5%, while Hugo, aimed at a younger audience, reported sales rose 2%.

While sales of casual styles continued to accelerate, as the working-from-home trend boosts more relaxed dressing, Hugo Boss said it had also seen a recovery in sales of formal wear due to pent-up demand for business and party fashion.

Hugo Boss, which had already reported preliminary second-quarter results last month, said sales were up 7% compared to 2019 in the United Kingdom, and up 33% in mainland China.

The recovery in China came despite calls for a boycott of Western brands launched in late March over Western accusations of forced labour in Xinjiang when at least three Chinese celebrities said in March they were dropping Hugo Boss.

Meanwhile, sales in Europe were just 4% below levels recorded in 2019 and were down 5% in the Americas. Around 20% of the company's global store network was still closed during the second quarter.

The company reiterated that it expects currency-adjusted group sales in fiscal year 2021 to increase by between 30% and 35%.

New Hugo Boss CEO overhauls top team to revive brand

BERLIN (Reuters) - Hugo Boss has shaken up its senior management team under new chief executive Daniel Grieder, who wants to make the German fashion retailer one of the world's top 100 global brands.

The German label, which raised its full-year outlook last month after third-quarter earnings rebounded, on Thursday said it had reshuffled management, including for its Greater China, Russia and emerging markets regions.

Judith Sun will be managing director for Greater China, former Ralph Lauren (NYSE:RL) executive Luigi Boiocchi will lead a newly created emerging markets and Russia unit while Christopher Koeber will head shoes and accessories operations after his arrival from Tommy Hilfinger last month.

The brand known for its smart men's suits had been struggling to revive the business for years before the COVID-19 pandemic prompted people forced to work from home to abandon formal wear for hoodies and sneakers.

However, the company on Thursday reported third-quarter sales and profit above pre-pandemic levels in the third quarter.

Much of that was attributable to a revival in Europe and the Americas, though sales fell 1% in the Asia-Pacific region, as renewed coronavirus restrictions closing about 10% of its store network in the region.

Grieder, the former head of rival label Tommy Hilfiger, is trying to modernise the Boss brand and is seeking to boost its appeal for younger consumers by launching more casual styles and spending heavily on marketing with celebrities on social media.

The Swiss CEO, who took over in June, has also placed greater emphasis on expanding online sales in a strategy he also persued at Tommy Hilfiger.

Hugo Boss also said on Thursday that it has set up new digital operations at its German headquarters in Metzingen and in the Portuguese city of Porto, with plans to relaunch the brand's website in early 2022.

Hugo Boss exceeds 2021 sales target after strong Q4

BERLIN (Reuters) - Hugo Boss said on Tuesday that it had exceeded its full year sales targets after fourth quarter earnings helped propel the German fashion house back to nearly pre-pandemic levels.

The company said revenue rose 43% in 2021 to 2.786 billion euros ($3.17 billion), on a preliminary basis after adjusting for currency effects. That brings revenue to only 1% below its 2019 result of 2.884 billion euros.

The company had raised its outlook in October, predicting sales to grow by about 40% on a currency-adjusted level, on the back of strong demand in Europe and the Americas.

Operating profit (EBIT) for 2021 is now seen at 228 million euros. In October, it was raised to 175 million to 200 million euros, compared with a previous forecast for 125 million to 175 million euros.

Fourth-quarter sales stood at 906 million euros, up 55% from the year before, Hugo Boss said.

The full balance sheet will be published on March 10.
