Investing.com – Rolls Royce (LON:RR) stock (OTC:RYCEY) climbed nearly 11% in London on a double boost from a new order to supply new B-52 engines and the sale of its ITP Aero unit to Bain Capital.

The company will supply 650 engines from its F-130 family over 30 years to equip the United State Air Force’s B-52 'stratofortress' planes, a valuable, long-term order that promises steady cash flows for the group's military aviation unit.

In a separate announcement, Rolls-Royce said it will sell 100% of its Spanish-based unit ITP Aero for approximately €1.7 billion (around $2 billion) to a consortium led by Bain Capital Private Equity. The Spanish company will remain a key long-term strategic supplier to Rolls-Royce, according to a note by the latter.

Rolls-Royce said the transaction, expected to close in the first half of 2022, will help rebuild its balance sheet and support medium-term ambition to return to an investment-grade credit profile. The company closed the first half of 2021 with net debt of 3.1 billion pounds (around $4.25 billion).

The twin announcements add to more good news for the company that was announced last week, when the U.S. announced it would ease restrictions on transatlantic travel, allowing access to vaccinated passengers arriving from the EU and U.K.. The U.K. for its part also announced an easing of testing requirements for passengers arriving from abroad. Shares of airline companies, Rolls-Royce’s biggest clients, have bounced since the announcements.

Rolls-Royce asks to submit mini nuclear technology to Britain’s regulator

LONDON (Reuters) – Rolls-Royce has asked Britain’s government for clearance to begin the 4-5 year long process of seeking regulatory approval for its small modular nuclear reactor, it said on Wednesday, the first step towards commercializing the technology.

LONDON (Reuters) – Rolls-Royce has asked Britain’s government for clearance to begin the 4-5 year long process of seeking regulatory approval for its small modular nuclear reactor, it said on Wednesday, the first step towards commercializing the technology.

Britain earlier this month backed a $546 million funding round at the company to develop the country’s first small modular nuclear reactor (SMR), in a drive to reach net zero carbon emissions and promote new technology with export potential.

“This is an important moment for the nuclear industry, as a UK SMR reactor design enters the initial process for regulatory approval for the first time,” Helena Perry, Regulatory and Safety Affairs Director at Rolls-Royce said in a statement.

All new nuclear power projects need approval from Britain’s Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) through its Generic Design Assessment which is expected to take 4-5 years to complete.

Britain’s government must first give companies clearance to submit their designs to the regulator, a process that is expected to take up to four months before the formal review process can begin.

Investing.com -- Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) will deliver a £2,000 cash bonus to nearly three-quarters of its U.K. workforce as the engine maker looks to help its employees deal with rising living costs, according to a Sky News report citing an internal memo.

The company will also offer a 4% pay bump backdated to March to 11,000 workers, Sky News reported.

In total, 14,000 of Rolls-Royce's 20,000 employees in Britain would benefit from the decision. The lump-sum payment and the wage increase will cost the company more than £40 million, according to a Sky News source.

Rolls-Royce would join several other British companies, including Lloyds Banking Group (LON:LLOY) and Morrisons, who have rolled out additional pay in response to soaring inflation.

A spokesperson for Rolls-Royce did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

London-listed shares in Rolls-Royce were higher in early trading on Tuesday.

Rolls-Royce shares fall after JPMorgan puts engine firm on negative catalyst watch

Investing.com -- Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) shares fell on Tuesday after analysts at JPMorgan placed the engine maker on their "negative catalyst watch," citing expectations that the company's new chief executive will issue a warning about its financial performance next year.

In a note to clients, the analysts said they believe incoming CEO Tufan Erginbilgic will move to prepare investors for "further restructuring or measures to improve the balance sheet" when he speaks to shareholders in February. They added that Erginbilgic is also likely to flag weaker-than-expected free cash flow and a slower-than-anticipated recovery in engine flying hours.

Erginbilgic will take over at the helm of the British plane engine manufacturer in January, succeeding outgoing Chief Executive Warren East.

Shares in Rolls-Royce have slipped by nearly 25% over the past one-year period, as the group grapples with investor worries over the pace of the aviation industry's recovery from the pandemic.

However, East said in November that Rolls-Royce remains well-positioned to handle potential headwinds facing the sector, and has repaid £2 billion (£1 = $1.2286) in debt taken on during the COVID-19 crisis.

The firm also backed its annual financial target for modestly positive free cash flow, low- to mid-single underlying revenue growth, and profit margin broadly in line with the 3.8% result registered in its prior fiscal year.

Rolls-Royce: what’s behind the stunning rally?

A Rolls-Royce Holdings
RR.
5.29%

capable of “materially higher profit, cash flows and returns” was music to the ears of shareholders today as the engine giant’s new boss made an instant impression.

Tufan Erginbilgic’s first set of results and revelation that a transformation plan is already moving at pace inspired the best performance for shares in two years.

Rolls, which languished at below 70p in October, hit a high of 134p during a stunning session when four times the usual daily volume of shares had been traded by lunchtime.

More details on Erginbilgic’s plans are due later in the year, including the key points from a strategic review designed to focus investment on the most profitable opportunities.

In the meantime, the company is finally benefiting from favourable tailwinds as a recovery in engine flying hours in civil aerospace led to better-than-expected 2022 results.

The most important statistic concerned £502 million of free cash flow, which compared with the City’s £64 million forecast and an outflow of £1.5 billion the previous year. Aided by disposals, it means net debt is down to £3.3 billion from £5.2 billion in 2021.

Guidance for the current year also impressed as Rolls signalled an operating profit of between £800 million and £1 billion, up from the better-than-expected £652 million reported today.

What’s gone wrong with the stock market?
Free cash flow is seen in the range of £600 million and £800 million as the reopening of China’s economy means Rolls expects large engine flying hours at 80%-90% of their 2019 pre-Covid level, compared with 65% in 2022.

Total shop visits are also set to rise from 1,000 to 1,200-1,300 amid greater utilisation of aircraft such as the A330, powered by Trent 700 engines with an average age of 11 years.

These remain early days in the turnaround, however, with dividend payments still off the table as the company focuses on returning to an investment grade credit rating.

And it was only last month that Erginbilgic likened the business to a burning platform and said that the current performance was unsustainable.

He wants to create a “winning culture”, with a shared determination to deliver cash and reduce debt as Rolls focuses on improving efficiency and commercial outcomes.

The former BP executive said today: “Our people take tremendous pride in our innovation and engineering solutions. Together, we must now move at pace and harness that pride to create a high-performing, growing and competitive business.”

Extensive work has already taken place to benchmark the company’s performance against its peers, with the conclusion that there is “significant scope for us to deliver materially higher profit, cash flows and returns”.

These comments provided a major lift to stock market confidence today after a drawn out Covid recovery that required November 2020’s heavily discounted £2 billion rights issue. The fundraising offered existing investors the chance to buy shares at just 32p a share.

While the company’s businesses in defence and power systems have performed well for some time, they have been unable to compensate for the slower-than-expected return to profitability and free cash flow in civil aerospace.

Today’s operating profit in civil aerospace amounted to £143 million at a 2.5% margin, versus a loss of £172 million in 2021 as engine flying hours rose 35% and deliveries improved 15%.

Order intake in the defence business of £5.4 billion compared with £2.3 billion in 2021, but operating profit of £432 million at a 11.8% margin was down slightly due to the non-repeat of a large spare parts order the previous year.

Power systems orders were a record £4.3 billion, some 29% higher than the year before and leading to improved profits of £281 million at a 8.4% margin.

Rolls-Royce zaprezentował nowoczesne silniki odrzutowe. Trafią do bombowców B-52H Stratofortress

Rolls-Royce nadal ściśle współpracuje z USAF i Boeingiem, aby zapewnić sprawne działanie procesu testowania i integracji silnika.

Candice Bineyard
Jak się okazuje, nowoczesne silniki to nie tylko unowocześnią samoloty, ale też pozytywnie wpłyną na ich osiągi. Candice Bineyard, dyrektor do spraw programów wojskowych w Rolls-Royce zapowiedziała też kilka usprawnień:

Zapewni to wyższą efektywność spalania, zmniejszenie wymagań w zakresie tankowania w powietrzu i znacznie niższe koszty utrzymania floty B-52.

Rolls-Royce Holdings saw a modest increase of 2.4% after receiving a "buy" rating from UBS, which nearly doubled its price target.

Despite concerns over the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the aviation industry, the bank noted the potential for a rebound in the market, particularly in Asia and China, which could bring valuations back to historical norms.
