To przyniesie skokowy wzrost odpisów.

UniCredit zapowiedział, że uwzględni w modelach ryzyka (zgodnie z wymogami standardu IFRS9) zaktualizowane prognozy makroekonomiczne uwzględniające wpływ pandemii koronawirusa. Oznaczać to będzie duży wzrost odpisów i kosztów ryzyka banku.

Shares in UniCredit down 4.5% hit by concerns over CEO's future
MILAN (Reuters) - Shares in Italy's UniCredit fell 4.5% on Monday hit by concerns about the future of Chief Executive Jean Pierre Mustier, whose mandate ends in the spring.

Directors at Italy's no.2 bank held informal discussions on Sunday ahead of kicking off this week the process to select nominees for the renewal of the board in April 2021.

People familiar with matter have said friction over strategy within the bank has called into question whether Mustier will remain at the helm.

The 59-year-old former investment banker arrived in mid-2016 to fix UniCredit's capital woes. He presided over a turnaround, cleaning up the balance sheet and raising tens of billions of euros from share and asset sales.

He has failed however to lift the price of the shares, which trade at a 40% discount to UniCredit's book value. A plan to return cash to shareholders has been derailed by the pandemic which triggered a supervisory ban on dividends.

Following fruitless attempts to strike a cross-border merger, Mustier has vowed to stay out of consolidation, even as matchmaking in Italy's fragmented banking sector intensifies.

Government efforts to find a buyer for bailed-out Monte dei Paschi have become the latest flashpoint, sources have said, because UniCredit had been identified as the ideal partner due to its robust balance sheet.

Shares in Monte dei Paschi rose 6% on Monday lifted by expectations that a potential Mustier departure would clear the path to an acquisition.

Mustier's "no M&A" stance is out of step with growing merger activity in southern Europe following Intesa Sanpaolo (OTC:ISNPY)'s surprise takeover of UBI this summer.

Credit Agricole (OTC:CRARY) last week announced a buyout offer for third-tier Italian lender Creval.

Meanwhile Banco BPM, which at the start of summer held contacts with UniCredit over a potential tie-up, has welcomed merger overtures by the top investor in BPER Banca.

UniCredit, Amundi back Italy's first private equity fund for small savers

MILAN (Reuters) - A number of leading financial firms including UniCredit and Credit Agricole (OTC:CRARY)'s asset manager Amundi have sponsored Italy's first private equity fund targeting retail investors.

The fund, dubbed HOPE, aims to raise 500 million euros ($581 million) from both professional investors and small savers, who can invest as little as 1,000 euros.

Italian households held net financial assets of 3,809 billion euros at the end of 2020, according to the Bank of Italy. Amid the uncertainty caused by the pandemic, deposits rose by 85 billion euros last year, more than twice the average increase of the previous five years.

"The idea behind HOPE is to funnel Italy's huge private savings into the country's real economy to fuel economic growth," HOPE CEO Claudio Scardovi told Reuters.

Backers of the project also include Italy's top insurer Generali (MI:GASI), banks Banco BPM, BPER and BNL, the Italian arm of France's BNP Paribas (OTC:BNPQY).

Sponsors have provided financing to get the venture off the ground and some have also given a preliminary commitment to invest in the fund when it launches.

"Italy needs to grow to sustain its public debt, which is being financed in part by other euro zone members such as Germany and France through the European Central Bank," Scardovi said.

Extraordinary economic support measures deployed by Rome during the COVID-19 crisis have lifted Italy's public debt, one of the world's largest, to 2,726 billion euros - more than 1.5 times the country's domestic output.

The country, plagued by chronically sluggish growth, is banking on the post-pandemic recovery to lower its debt burden.

Private equity funds are enjoying a boom phase as investors hunt for returns amid negative rates and sky-high valuations on financial markets awash with cheap liquidity.

"Inflation is upon us and investing in unlisted real assets is the best defence strategy against it," Scardovi, formerly at consultancy AlixPartners, said.

"We want to give ordinary Italians access to the private equity universe ... by putting a share of their savings in a diversified portfolio with exposure to corporate, but also real estate and infrastructure."

HOPE, which targets a double-digit rate of return on its investments, is awaiting a green light from Italian market regulator Consob in early 2022, before it starts distributing its products through the financial institutions that backed it.($1 = 0.8611 euros)

UniCredit raises 2021 profit goal after strong quarter

MILAN (Reuters) - Italy's second-biggest bank UniCredit raised its 2021 profit and revenue goals on Thursday after higher revenues and shrinking loan losses drove quarterly results above forecasts.

UniCredit, which on Sunday walked out of a deal to rescue state-owned rival Monte dei Paschi (MPS), posted a net profit of 1.06 billion euros ($1.2 billion) for July-September, above a bank-provided average analyst forecast of 838 million euros.

After hiring as its CEO in April veteran dealmaker Andrea Orcel, the former investment banking chief at UBS, UniCredit said it would present a new business plan on Dec. 9.

The investor day has been held back by the discussions with Italy's Treasury over MPS.

In entering exclusive talks in July, Orcel set strict terms, which led to negotiations collapsing when the parties could not agree on the bits of MPS that UniCredit would buy and their value - with sources pointing to a valuation gap of up to 3.5 billion euros.

UniCredit made no mention of MPS in its earnings statement and did not hold a media call, as it used to under previous CEO Jean Pierre Mustier.

UniCredit's revenues totalled 4.44 billion euros in July-September, a surprise 1.9% annual rise and also unexpectedly up 0.8% on the previous quarter, when easing COVID-19 restrictions had driven an exceptional rebound in fees.

While down from the previous quarter, fees rose 12.5% year-on-year, helped by a pick-up in payment and card services over the summer, with debt and capital markets activity also contributing.

Net interest income, UniCredit's Achilles heel amid negative interest rates, rose 3.1% from March-June, helped by one-off items but also growing volumes, especially in eastern Europe, despite ongoing competitive pressure driving down rates.

UniCredit said it now expected its 2021 underlying net profit to be above 3.7 billion euros, versus a previous forecast of more than 3 billion.

Revenues are projected at around 17.5 billion euros, from an estimate of around 17.1 billion three months ago.

"The market expected a good set of results, nevertheless we see them as positive for the stock, given the trends in core revenues and improved guidance," Citi analysts said in a note.

The bank also further reduced its forecast for loan losses this year after provisions in the quarter fell a larger-than-expected 60% from a year earlier to 297 million euros.

Under Mustier, who was ousted after clashing with the board over strategy, UniCredit had made hefty provisions against future pandemic-driven credit losses, but the extent of the damage on businesses is yet to emerge amid residual support measures in countries such as Italy.

UniCredit (MI:CRDI) stock rose 0.6% after the Italian bank continued the recent good news for the sector, reporting better-than-expected full-year revenues and underlying profit. It confirmed it will pay its first dividend since the pandemic began but is still awaiting ECB approval for its planned buyback. That is expected in February.
