SOBOTA, 24 WRZEŚNIA 2022
Domino's Pizza (DPZ)
Troszkę czasu minęło od ostatniej analizy spółki, więc dzisiaj najwyższy czas na to aby pod lupę wziąć kolejną firmę - Domino's Pizza. Spółka założona została w 1960 roku, na wagę przynosi niecałe 12 mld. $ i zatrudnia 13 500 pracowników.

Domino's Pizza Misses Estimates but Shares Still Rally on Solid Same Store Sales

Shares of Domino's Pizza (NYSE:DPZ) are trading more than 5% higher today after the company reported Q3 results.

DPZ posted an adjusted EPS of $2.79 on revenue of $1.07 billion, which compares to analyst consensus of $2.98 on sales of $1.07 billion. Domestic store comparable sales rose 2%, better than the average analyst estimate of 1.11%. However, the U.S. growth was offset by a drop in International comparable sales of 1.8%, worse than the estimated fall of 1.2%.

Domino's said it opened 224 new stores in the quarter, much lower than the analyst consensus of 263. The company also reaffirmed its previous fiscal 2022 guidance for food basket pricing.

Stifel analysts commented:

"We were pleased with the SRS performance amid mounting consumer pressures. We surmise the stock's strength this morning reflects its oversold condition and investors looking out to easier comparisons now that an uncertain quarter is behind them."

Goldman Sachs analysts added:

"We expect shares to react positively to the 3Q print, particularly as it relates to the better than expected US SSS trends and positioning into the print; however, see the lower unit growth and margins as potentially limiting factors."

Domino’s Pizza Sinks after Muted Outlook

Shares of Domino’s Pizza (NYSE: DPZ) sunk over 8% in morning trading after the pizza company’s outlook left investors disappointed. The company slashed its two-to-three-year sales outlook to a range of 4% to 8% growth from a prior estimate of 6% to 10%, citing macroeconomic headwinds that are particularly impacting its pizza delivery business in the U.S. The global net unit growth estimates were also reduced to between 5% and 7% over the two-to-three-year period versus a forecast of 6% to 8% earlier.

Revenues increased by 3.6% year-over-year in Q4 to $1.39 billion falling short of analysts’ expectations of $1.44 billion. Same-store sales in the U.S. increased by 0.9% in Q4 but declined by 0.8% in FY22.

Adjusted earnings came in at $4.43 per share in Q4 versus $4.25 in the same period last year and exceeding analysts’ estimates of $3.96. Moreover, DPZ raised its quarterly dividend by 10% to $1.21 per share for shareholders of record as of March 15 to be paid on March 30, 2023.

Domino's Pizza (DPZ) posted fiscal fourth-quarter earnings Thursday before market open that mostly missed estimates. Shares of the pizza chain were down more than 11% in early trading following the results and the earnings call with investors.

The Michigan-based company posted U.S. same-store sales, up 0.9%, far less than analyst estimates of 3.94%. This past quarter, the company navigated implementing higher prices in the U.S. and their effect on same-store sales, potential consumer trade-down, and the impact of inflation on the cost of goods.

Here's what Domino's Pizza reported, compared to Wall Street expectations, per Bloomberg consensus estimates:

Revenue: $1.39 billion versus $1.43 billion expected

Adjusted earnings per share: $4.43 versus $3.97

U.S. same-store sales: up 0.9% versus up 3.64% expected

Franchise-owned stores: up 0.8% versus up 3.4% expected

Co-owned stores: up 3.4% versus 3.13% expected

International same-store sales: up 2.6% versus up 3.93% expected

In the full 2022 fiscal year, global same-store sales for Domino's Pizza grew 3.9%. In the U.S., sales fell 0.8% and international sales grew only 0.1%.

Domino's Pizza downgraded as fundamental outlook disappoints analysts

Domino's Pizza (NYSE:DPZ) was downgraded at Baird and Citi on Friday in reaction to the company's recent earnings release.

Before the previous session opened, Domino's reported an earnings beat but a revenue miss, prompting analysts to re-rate and adjust price targets on the stock.

Citi analysts downgraded DPZ to Neutral from Buy, dropping the firm's price target on the stock to $316 from $429 in a note to clients on Friday.

"DPZ can point to success driving the carryout business (good for store profits) and share gains within the QSR pizza category; however, we believe: (1) the former also means competing with a broader swath of restaurants; and (2) the latter defines the competitive set too narrowly and glosses over the inroads 3PD has made into the category," argued the analysts.

They added that decelerating trends in both delivery/carryout and an only 2% SSS gap between essentially fully staffed stores and the bottom quintile of stores "suggest the problems run deeper than just staffing/the solutions may be a tougher fix."

"This will translate into at least another year of challenged top/bottom-line growth, and, with limited visibility into earnings growth sustainably reaccelerating to prior norms despite still-elevated valuation vs. peers/market, we are stepping aside," concluded the analysts.

Elsewhere, Baird downgraded Domino's to Neutral, with a revised price target of $320, from $400 per share. The analysts there stated that the firm came away from DPZ's Q4 report with "lower conviction in the fundamental outlook."

"When factoring in our reduced estimates, management's expectations for slower top-line growth in upcoming years, and the limited visibility to improved U.S. comps performance, we are having difficulty arguing for a significant rebound in the shares on a near-term basis," wrote the analysts.

DPZ shares closed Thursday's session down more than 11%, while they have declined a further 1.9% premarket Friday.

Domino’s Pizza (NYSE:DPZ) topped first-quarter earnings expectations, helped by robust demand, sending its share price higher on Thursday.

The restaurant chain reported Q1 EPS of $2.93, $0.22 better than the analyst estimate of $2.71. Revenue for the quarter came in at $1.02 billion versus the consensus estimate of $1.03 billion.

The company's revenue increased by 1.3% in the first quarter, which it put down to higher supply chain revenues attributable to increases in market basket pricing to stores, which increased by 4.6%. In addition, U.S. same-store sales grew 3.6%, with International same-store sales (excluding foreign currency impact) growing 1.2%.

Domino's shares hit a high of $352.16 following the report. However, at the time of writing, the stock is down 2% at $332.27 per share.

"Our continued evolution from a U.S. delivery business to a global pizza company with strength in both delivery and carryout keeps me bullish on our future," commented Russell Weiner, Domino's chief executive officer.

Reacting to the report, Stifel analysts maintained a Hold rating on the stock.

They told investors in a note: "Domestic SRS was stronger than expected, driven entirely by a higher check average. We estimate that same-store transactions declined in the MSD range."

(Reuters) - Australia's Domino's Pizza (NYSE:DPZ) Enterprises said on Tuesday it would shut 27 stores in Denmark, and its construction and supply arm in Australia, sending its shares as much as 11.9% lower in early trade to the bottom of the ASX 200 index.

The Australian franchise said the streamlining of operations would help improve its fiscal year 2024 earnings before interest and taxation by A$25 million ($16.89 million) to A$30 million, compared with A$113.9 million reported in first-half of 2023.

The Danish store closures represent 0.7% of Domino's global footprint of 3,827 stores, it said in a statement, adding that it would also result in non-recurring costs of between A$80 million and A$93 million for fiscal 2023.

In February, the pizza giant posted its biggest drop in net income since 2011 during the half-year period from July-December, 2022 on weak order growth. The company had also flagged its fiscal 2023 net profit after tax guidance of A$144 million would miss consensus.

"While the greater-than-expected restructuring could provide an earnings benefit from FY24, unless the company can improve its customer value proposition and franchisee profitability, we expect the business model to remain under pressure," Citi analysts said in a note.

Domino's said on Tuesday it expected same-store sales in fiscal 2023 to remain below the medium-term outlook of 3%-6% annual growth, even as the metric improved in the fourth quarter.

Domino's Pizza jumps 10% on delivery agreement with Uber

Domino’s Pizza (NYSE:DPZ) shares surged in pre-market Wednesday trading after the company announced an agreement with Uber (NYSE:UBER) to allow U.S.-based customers to order its products via Uber Eats and Postmates apps.

The implementation will begin this fall in four pilot markets, before expanding across the country by the end of 2023.

"Our research in the U.S. and learnings from 13 of our international markets has shown us that taking orders using the Uber Eats Marketplace provides access for Domino's and its franchisees to a new segment of customers and what we believe will be a meaningful amount of incremental delivery orders once it's widely available," said Domino's CEO Russell Weiner.

Domino's and Uber Eats currently have 27 international markets in common. Two companies said that this deal has the potential for incremental orders from Uber Eats to 70% of Domino's stores around the world.

Uber's CEO Dara Khosrowshahi added: "We're excited to announce this unique partnership with Domino's globally—both starting as their exclusive third-party marketplace partner in the U.S. and making their menu available to our consumer base around the world—and we look forward to bringing customers the convenience, technology, and experience that are foundational to both of our brands."

Uber shares are up almost 2% on the news.

BMO Capital reiterated an Outperform rating on Domino’s Pizza Inc (NYSE:DPZ) and raised their 12-month price target on the stock to $450.00 (from $395) after the Michigan-based pizza chain announced a global partnership with Uber Technologies Inc 's (NYSE:UBER) online food ordering platform, Uber Eats.

Domino’s announced a partnership Wednesday that would allow U.S. customers to order their food through Uber Eats and Postmates marketplaces, with deliveries fulfilled by Domino’s and its franchisees.

Analysts wrote in a note that they believe the “partnership represents a meaningful potential sales driver”, as third-party partnerships are a“proven sales driver that can have multi-year benefits and, in this case, bridge DPZ to a better operating environment in which it can benefit from upcoming operational and technology enhancements.”

The analysts along with BMO believe, based on prior industry examples, that Domino’s partnership with Uber could create a ~5% U.S. sales lift, implying a potential $1+ EPS benefit.

“The proven sales driver can be a multi-year sales tailwind, an encouraging pivot following a period in which we believed DPZ was taking an overly cautious approach in a challenging environment,” they added in the note. “Industry examples suggest potential ~5% U.S. comp lift and, combined with easing input pressures, should add to EPS and drive stronger unit economics.”

Shares of DPZ are up 0.66% in afternoon trading on Thursday.
