07.2022 - Royal Mail (LON:RMG) stock fell 5% after the delivery service is considering to separate the units of Royal Mail and GLS if Royal Mail’s performance in the U.K. doesn’t improve.
During its Annual General Meeting on 20 July 2022, the company announced that the holding company responsible for both Royal Mail and GLS would change its name to International Distributions Services. It was also suggested that the board of directors may look to separate GLS in order to distance the profitable company from Royal Mail, which are currently in negotiations with the CWU over both pay and future changes to ways of working. The name change was filled in the Companies House on 28 September 2022 and registered on 3 October.

Royal Mail ma za sobą udany rok pod względem wyników, dzięki czemu notowania pocztowego operatora wzrosły w tym roku najmocniej w indeksie FTSE 100.

Royal Mail to przedsiębiorstwo pocztowe działające w Wielkiej Brytanii. Spółka niegdyś była kontrolowana przez Skarb Państwa, a od kilku lat notowana jest na londyńskiej giełdzie. Czas pandemii był dla niej niezwykle owocny. W roku obrotowym zakończonym w marcu 2021 r. przychody wzrosły o 17 proc., do 12,6 mld funtów. Mocno przyczynił się do tego biznes kurierski, bowiem sprzedaż usług dostarczania paczek wzrosła o 39 proc. Przez pandemię i rozwój handlu internetowego Royal Mail musiał dostosować się do zmian na rynku i rosnącego popytu na dostawy paczek. Pomógł w tym nowy prezes Simon Thompson, który wcześniej pracował w Ocado, firmie opracowującej systemy automatyzacji dla sklepów internetowych. Simon skupił się na transformacji 500-letniej firmy, która postawiła na rozwój odnogi kurierskiej. W efekcie w minionym roku zysk spółki wzrósł o 116 proc., do 702 mln funtów.

Royal Mail UK parcel* volumes fall, outlook uncertain as COVID-19 curbs** ease

(Reuters) -Royal Mail Plc said Britons are having fewer parcels delivered to their homes as pandemic curbs are lifted and it withheld from offering an annual outlook for its UK business due to COVID-19 uncertainties, sending shares down 2% to two-month lows.

It also warned on Wednesday that revenue growth at its more profitable international division would taper off this year, even as it reported a 12.5% rise in group revenue in the first quarter.

The company said parcel volumes in its UK business fell 13% in the three months ended June 30 from a year ago, with international shipments coming into Britain affected by Brexit, reduced air freight capacity and higher transport costs.

"We continue to expect fluctuations in volumes as we emerge from COVID restrictions, which we will need to manage accordingly," Royal Mail (LON:RMG) Chairman Keith Williams said.

Postal companies such as Royal Mail, UPS, FedEx (NYSE:FDX), DHL and e-commerce firm Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) saw demand for their home delivery services surge as governments worldwide imposed strict lockdown measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic over the past year.

But as the British government has gradually lifted restrictions since April, people have returned to shopping malls and high streets.

Research firm Third Bridge analyst Ben Nuttall said there were early signs that online buying behaviour was sticking, with Royal Mail's domestic parcels in the first quarter still up 19% on 2019 levels.

"In the medium-term, one of the key challenges for Royal Mail is its low level of parcel automation," he said.

Royal Mail is constructing two fully-automated parcel hubs which are expected to be operational in 2023 in Warrington and Daventry.

Royal Mail stuck to its 2021 revenue growth forecast for GLS, its worldwide ground-based parcel network, even as the postal company said it will begin to slow as the year progresses.

Shares in the FTSE 100 company are still up more than 50% so far this year.

Royal Mail expands Canada railroads with C$360M Rosenau acquisition

Royal Mail's (OTCPK:ROYMY -4.2%) subsidiary General Logistics Systems (GLS) acquires Canadian logistics group Mid-Nite Sun Transportation Ltd for C$360M (~$289M). Mid-Nite Sun is the owner of one of the largest independent freight carriers in Western Canada: Rosenau Transport.
Rosenau Transport had revenue of C$175M and core earnings of C$41.6M for the year ended August. The deal will allow GLS to cover the majority of the Canadian population and link its services along the U.S. West Coast.
"The addition of Rosenau Transport to GLS complements and enhances our Accelerate strategy. With its strong presence in Western Canada, high quality, entrepreneurial culture, as well as freight capabilities and parcel potential, Rosenau Transport’s model is similar to our existing Canadian business and provides an excellent fit." said GLS CEO Martin Seidenberg.
The parties intend to close the transaction on December 1, 2021.
Royal Mail recently uplifted its profit forecast.
