Alibaba wprowadza nowy chip serwerowy

Chiński gigant e-commerce Alibaba (NASDAQ: BABA) wprowadził we wtorek nowy chip serwerowy, aby zwiększyć swoją działalność w chmurze i konkurować z amerykańskimi rywalami, takimi jak Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN). Nowy procesor nosi nazwę Yitian 710 i trafi do nowych serwerów o nazwie Panjiu.

NIEDZIELA, 19 GRUDNIA 2021
Alibaba Group Holding Limited (BABA)
Kupując Alibabę, kupuje się kota w worku...
BABA 19.12.2021 - 122,10 $

Alibaba Shares Surge as Sales Beats Boost Sentiment

(Bloomberg) -- Chinese tech shares jumped on Friday after two of the biggest Internet giants reported earnings that topped estimates, easing investor worries about the economic hit from Covid-19 lockdowns.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Tech Index gained as much as 4.9%, the most in a week. E-commerce leader Alibaba (NYSE:BABA) Group Holding Ltd. and Baidu Inc (NASDAQ:BIDU). were among the top gainers, rallying by at least 13% each.

READ: Alibaba’s Sales Beat Eases Fears of Covid’s Economic Fallout

Both Alibaba and Baidu reported sales growth that were higher than expected, suggesting some of China’s largest businesses have found ways to wade through strict Covid restrictions in key cities. The revenue beats offer a rare but encouraging sign in an economy that’s come to a standstill due to stringent movement controls.

“We do expect the second quarter to mark the bottom in growth for our companies,” Ronald Keung, head of Asia Internet research at Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS). said in a Bloomberg TV interview. “Depending on the Covid policies and the government’s policies in helping to drive back consumption confidence, we do expect easier comps for China tech companies particularly as you enter into September and December quarter.”

China’s Premier Gives Dire Growth Warning in Unpublished Remarks

Investors are also hoping the more than a yearlong crackdown on private enterprise is approaching an end. Policy makers have been vowing support for the industry as part of their effort to support a slumping economy.

The Nasdaq Golden Dragon China Index of Chinese firms trading in the U.S. jumped 7.6% on Thursday. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index gained as much as 3.3% on Friday while China’s CSI 300 Index climbed as much as 1.5%.

Still, traders remain wary that fresh virus outbreaks and Beijing’s adherence to a Covid Zero policy may roil further market upside. Any policy support may also be gradual, with Tencent Holdings (OTC:TCEHY) Ltd. executives warning last week that it will take time for Beijing to act on promises to support the sector.

SHANGHAI/HONG KONG (Reuters) -Alibaba plans to add a primary listing in Hong Kong to its New York presence, targeting investors in mainland China as it becomes the first big company to take advantage of a rule change in the financial hub to attract high-tech Chinese firms.

The e-commerce giant's move, announced on Tuesday, comes as both Washington and Beijing sharpen scrutiny over Chinese companies' listings, and after a devastating regulatory crackdown in China left Alibaba (NYSE:BABA) with a $2.8 billion fine and scuppered an initial public offering (IPO) of its affiliate Ant Group.

It also comes against the backdrop of an audit dispute between China and the United States, which is threatening to kick out hundreds of Chinese companies listed in New York.

Analysts said the change should give mainland China investors easier access to the shares via a link to the Hong Kong bourse known as the Stock Connect. Secondary listings in Hong Kong, like Alibaba's current listing, are not allowed in the Stock Connect trade.

The shares climbed 4.8% by the close of trading, while the Hong Kong benchmark gained 1.7%.

"Being in Stock Connect means it will be more convenient for mainland Chinese investors to eventually buy the stock, so investors are happy to step in today and buy the stock in Hong Kong," says Louis Tse, managing director of Wealthy Securities.

Already present on the Hong Kong bourse with a secondary listing since 2019, Alibaba said it expects the primary listing to be completed by the end of 2022. Chief Executive Daniel Zhang said the dual listing would foster a "wider and more diversified investor base".

The move comes after the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) in January changed its rules to allow "innovative" Chinese companies - operating an internet or other high-tech business - with weighted voting rights or variable interest entities (VIE) to carry out dual primary listings in the city.

Under a VIE structure, a Chinese company sets up an offshore entity for overseas listing purposes that allows foreign investors to buy into the stock.

"Hong Kong is also the launch pad for Alibaba's globalisation strategy, and we are fully confident in China's economy and future," Alibaba's CEO Zhang said in a statement.

SWEEPING CRACKDOWN

Alibaba listed on the New York Stock Exchange in September 2014, marking what was at the time the largest IPO in history.

Since 2020, the company's share price has tanked in both markets, as a sweeping regulatory crackdown by Beijing has battered Chinese tech companies.

At the same time, U.S. regulators have stepped up scrutiny of accounts of Chinese firms listed in New York, demanding greater transparency.

While broad in scope, a core focus of China's crackdown has been regulators seeking to expand oversight of public offerings.

Last year, Chinese authorities launched a probe into ride-hailing giant Didi Global just after it listed in New York, citing data privacy concerns.

The company later de-listed and began preparations to list in Hong Kong, leading analysts to interpret the probe as driven by a desire on Beijing's part for data-rich companies to list domestically.

ANT GROUP DECOUPLING

Alibaba also found itself in similar crosshairs when regulators abruptly halted Ant Group's planned $37 billion IPO in Hong Kong and in Shanghai in late 2020.

Concurrent with the announcement of its dual primary listing, Alibaba said on Tuesday in its annual financial report that several Ant Group executives had stepped down from their posts in the Alibaba Partnership, a top decision-making body for the e-commerce giant.

The departures are part of an ongoing decoupling of the fintech division from Alibaba, spurred by the botched IPO.

Justin Tang, head of Asian research at investment advisor United First Partners in Singapore, said that Alibaba's decision would boost the company's shares due to its potential inclusion in Stock Connect.

"With regards to other tech listings of similar kind, this will be the playbook for companies looking to hedge against regulatory risk that Chinese companies are facing on the U.S. bourses," he said.

In order to switch to a dual primary listing, the HKEX said companies had to have a good track record of at least two full financial years listed overseas, and a capitalisation of at least HK$40 billion ($5.10 billion) or a market value of at least HK$10 billion plus revenue of at least HK$1 billion for the most recent financial year.

Softbank Has Sold Forward Over Half Its Alibaba Position - FT

Investing.com -- Softbank (TYO:9984) has agreements in place to sell over half of its remaining stake in Alibaba (NYSE:BABA), the Financial Times reported on Thursday.

The Japanese venture capital company has used prepaid forward sales to raise around $22 billion in cash, scrambling to shore up a balance sheet under pressure from massive writedowns on its long-term bets on technology companies. The company's flagship Vision Fund posted a $27 billion loss in the first quarter, prompting founder and CEO Masayoshi Son to promise to "play defense" for the time being.

The FT said the contracts - which cover 213 million shares this year alone - will see Softbank's stake in Alibaba fall below the threshold at which it can keep its board seat and consolidate its earnings. The contracts include clauses which give Softbank an option on repurchasing them in the future. If Softbank doesn't exercise that option, then its counterparties, which include Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS), Mizuho (TYO:8411), and UBS (NYSE:UBS), could be left sitting on large blocks of stock which they could dump on the market.

Softbank's bet on Alibaba at its birth had made Son the richest man in Japan during the last decade. However, he has lost that crown as the value of Alibaba's stock has fallen in response to growing regulatory pressure from Beijing on China's Internet giants.

Ongoing disputes between the U.S. and Chinese securities regulators, which threaten the delisting of Alibaba and other Chinese companies from U.S. exchanges, have also weighed on Alibaba's stock price, which has fallen by more than two-thirds from its 2020 peak and is now only 40% above the price at which it listed in New York eight years ago.

Alibaba heads to Hong Kong

Deglobalization goes both ways.

Hong Kong approved Alibaba’s (NYSE:BABA) plans to transfer its primary market listing to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, a decision that makes for a neat counterpoint to Micron’s repatriation of its manufacturing capacity.

In more practical terms, the move will make it easier for mainland Chinese investors to get access to the stock through the ‘stock connect’ program that links the Hong Kong and mainland exchanges. Whether that will be enough to offset the more restricted access that non-Chinese investors may face in future is open to question.

The move is likely to take place before the year-end, according to various reports.

Elsewhere in China, Tesla’s Shanghai factory saw its production drop by two-thirds in July from a month earlier, although that was due to scheduled maintenance rather than any expression of U.S.-China tension.
