(BP, Kinder Morgan)

Najważniejsze, największe i najmocniej doceniane spółki regularnie wypłacające i podnoszące dywidendy, zwykle w długim okresie czasu wykazują wyższe stopy zwrotu, niż firmy o bardziej spekulacyjnym charakterze.

Kinder Morgan to Raise 2021 Dividend, Cut Capex

In December of 2015, Kinder Morgan Inc. (NYSE: KMI) announced that it would slash its dividend by 75%, from $2.04 annually to $0.50. Shares had been dropping since February, and the oil and gas midstream company hoped to stop the slide by funding new projects from cash flow rather than new borrowing. By January of 2016, the stock had fallen to a low of around $11 a share.

Since then, the stock has never risen above $25, but the dividend has been increased to $1.05 per share annually and shares currently trade at just under $15.

On Tuesday, Kinder Morgan announced preliminary financial projections for next year, including an increase of 3% to its dividend, raising the payout to shareholders to $1.08 per share. To meet that increase, the company projects capital spending (capex) to fall by $680 million from 2020’s original estimate of $2.4 billion. For the first three-quarters of 2020, Kinder Morgan’s capex totaled $1.35 billion.

The company said it expects to close out 2020 with a net debt to adjusted EBITDA ratio of approximately 4.6×. Kinder Morgan’s long-term target for this ratio is 4.5×.

For 2021, Kinder Morgan estimates net income of around $2.1 billion, and the company expects to generate $4.4 billion in distributable cash flow (DCF). Excluding discretionary capital spending and dividend payments, Kinder Morgan expects 2021 DCF to be about $700 million more than 2020’s total.

In making its calculations, Kinder Morgan assumed a 2021 average annual price for West Texas Intermediate crude oil of $43 a barrel and Henry Hub natural gas prices of $3 per million BTUs. The company also noted that the “vast majority” of its cash generation is fee-based and not subject to swings in commodity prices.

Kinder Morgan also estimates that every $1 per barrel change in the average price of crude will raise or lower DCF by approximately $4 million. Likewise, a $0.10 change in the price of natural gas will raise or lower DCF by around $1 million.

The announcement’s impact on Tuesday’s trading price was modest. Shares traded as high as $15 (up 1.3%), but pulled back to around $14.90, up about 0.8% for the day. The stock’s 52-week range is $9.42 to $22.58, and the consensus price target is $16.67, implying a potential upside of nearly 12% to the current share price. Kinder Morgan pays a dividend yield of 7.09%.

Postautor: slayer74 » 21 paź 2021 00:11

(Reuters) - Kinder Morgan Inc (NYSE:KMI) posted a 4.1% jump in adjusted profit for the third quarter on Wednesday, as a rebound in fuel demand from pandemic lows boosted the pipeline operator's volumes.

With people taking to the roads again and air travel picking up as international borders reopen, Kinder Morgan reported a jump of 9% in gasoline volumes and a 56% surge in jet fuel volumes.

The company also posted a 3% rise in gas pipeline volumes as a scramble to fill gas inventories before the winter heating season in Europe and Asia steadily boosted exports of liquefied natural gas from the United States.

"We continue to benefit from growing global natural gas demand. Our assets are well-positioned to serve growing domestic markets and export locations for LNG and Mexico," Chief Executive Officer Steve Kean said.

The Delta variant of COVID-19 had hit refined products volumes during the period, but the company expects the impact to ease in the fourth quarter.

Kinder Morgan, which pushed into the renewable natural gas business with the $310 million purchase of privately held Kinetrex Energy this year, said it was looking to take advantage of the global transition to green energy by seeking opportunities in the space.

Kinetrex and natural gas pipeline firm Stagecoach Gas Services, which Kinder Morgan bought in July, are expected to slightly outperform the company's expectations for the year.

Adjusted profit rose to $505 million, or 22 cents per share, in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, from $485 million, or 21 cents per share, a year earlier.

Analysts on average had estimated 24 cents per share, according to Refinitiv IBES data.

Revenue of $3.82 billion beat estimates of $3.26 billion.

This Popular 6% Yielder Has Deteriorating Dividend Safety

In September 2021, I looked at the dividend safety of energy distributor Kinder Morgan (NYSE: KMI). At the time, I gave it a “C” rating, which indicates moderate risk. Kinder Morgan’s issues were a dividend cut in the past 10 years and high debt.

Today, the situation is getting worse.

The dividend cut, which happened 6 1/2 years ago, is still a black mark on Kinder Morgan’s record. The current $0.2775 per share quarterly dividend is still 45% below where the dividend was before the reduction in October 2015.

Another issue is debt. Kinder Morgan piles it on like a member of Congress during an election year.

In September 2021, Kinder Morgan had more than $30 billion in debt. Its debt-to-EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) ratio was 6. That’s way too high. I don’t want to see anything above 4, and preferably lower.

Today, Kinder Morgan’s debt is above $31 billion and its debt-to-EBITDA ratio has climbed to 7.7 (though the company plans to reduce that ratio to 4.3 in 2022).

But there’s more bad news. Distributable cash flow (DCF), the measure of cash flow we use to determine whether the dividend is safe, is forecast to decline from $5.5 billion in 2021 to $4.9 billion in 2022. The $4.9 billion should still easily cover the projected $2.5 billion in dividends being paid out this year. But we never want to see cash flow decreasing. If it’s the beginning of a trend, it can put the payout in jeopardy down the road.

The cash flow decline is not a major concern on its own at this point. But that issue, combined with a heavy debt load and a history of lowering the dividend, means that I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Kinder Morgan cut its dividend in the next year or so.

Dividend Safety Rating: D

Re: Kinder Morgan NYSE: KMI przesył ropy i gazu

Postautor: slayer74 » 19 paź 2023 15:18

(Reuters) -Kinder Morgan on Wednesday posted lower-than-expected profit for the third quarter, as higher interest expenses offset strength in its natural gas and products pipeline segment.

The pipeline and terminal operator reported an adjusted profit of 25 cents per share for the quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with analysts' average estimate of 26 cents, according to LSEG data.

Shares of Kinder Morgan (NYSE:KMI) were down 1.3% at $16.91 in after-market trading.

The U.S. Federal Reserve's rapid interest rate hikes to tame inflation have made borrowing more expensive for businesses.

"We expect to finish 2023 slightly below our plan on a full-year basis, due to lower-than-expected commodity prices, delayed RNG (renewable natural gas) projects and higher pipeline integrity expense," the company said.

However, CEO Kimberly Allen Dang said in a post-earnings call "the 2024 curve is above 2023" and there are a "lot of tailwinds coming in this business."

"Storage rates have increased significantly. So we're able to charge more for storage. Obviously, on our contracts and Products and Terminals, we have inflation escalators, which help increase the EBITDA in those businesses."

Lower contribution from the carbon dioxide (CO2) transportation segment also pressured the company's earnings, hurt by weaker prices of natural gas liquids and CO2, lower volumes and higher power costs.

The Houston-based firm's earnings from the CO2 segment dropped to $175 million in the quarter from $195 million.
