British Land (LON:BLND) stock fell 2% after the developer posted a downturn in the value of its properties, as rising interest rates and a dark economic outlook weigh on the U.K. real estate market.

In broker note action, Marks & Spencer was boosted by rating upgrades at Exane, Goldman Sachs and Citi.

However, British Land was knocked lower by a downgrade to 'sell' at Goldman.

British Land Company tumbled 5.66%, after it disclosed a 12.3% decrease in its portfolio value for the year through March.

The firm attributed the decline to rising interest rates impacting property yields.

British Land gained after saying it continued to see strong operational momentum in the business, despite ongoing macroeconomic uncertainty, with its retail parks proving to be a "winning format".

Former blue-chip British Land, whose portfolio includes the Broadgate and Paddington Central campuses, fell 10.7p to 323.8p and Great Portland Estates shed 14.4p to 414p as the FTSE 250 index weakened 102.91 points to 18,890.90.
